Haworthiopsis 'Crocodile Skin' | Crocodile Skin
€15,90
🌱 Morphology
A collector's succulent that forms open rosettes, with elongated, fleshy medium-green leaves marked by longitudinal rows of prominent, whitish, rough tubercles, reminiscent of crocodile skin. Under more intense light, the leaves can take on pink tones, especially towards the base, and the light tubercles stand out even more. Its distinctive relief combines the warty texture inherited from Haworthiopsis koelmaniorum with the leaf shape of Haworthiopsis limifolia var. ubomboensis.
🌍 Origin, habitat and family
It is a horticultural hybrid created by John André Audissou, documented in 2002 under the name Haworthia ‘Crocodile Skin’. Its parental formula was published as Haworthia koelmaniorum × Haworthia limifolia var. ubomboensis. With the taxonomic reorganization of the genus, both parents are placed in Haworthiopsis. The first comes from northeastern South Africa, while the second is related to the Ubombo region in KwaZulu-Natal. Its parents grow in warm, stony environments, with fast-draining soils and partial protection from intense sunlight. As it is a cultivated hybrid, it has no native wild locality.
Family Asphodelaceae, subfamily Asphodeloideae, tribe Aloeae, genus Haworthiopsis.
❄️ Temperature — USDA 10a
It prefers mild temperatures and must be protected from frost. As a cultivation precaution, it is advisable to keep it above -1 °C, especially if the substrate is moist.
☀️ Lighting
Abundant filtered light or bright partial shade. An approximate PAR DLI of 8–15 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹ promotes compact growth and good tubercle expression. More intense lighting can accentuate the pink tones, but strong direct sun can cause burns.
💧 Growth cycle and watering
Opportunistic. It can grow when moderate temperatures, good lighting, and available moisture coincide. It is recommended to water thoroughly and let the substrate dry before repeating. During extreme heat or when its activity decreases, waterings are spaced out to avoid root damage.
🌸 Flowering
It produces an elongated inflorescence with small whitish flowers, understated compared to the ornamental appeal of its leaves. Flowering usually occurs during the favorable growing season.
🌿 Nutrition
During the active growth period, Desert CHOICE® Aloes, Haworthias & Co. is recommended, with a high content of potassium and bioavailable calcium. It is applied with watering, reducing or suspending fertilization during periods of dormancy or inactivity.
Gourmet black 9x9 cm pot
This is an inimitable xerophyte cultivated in Madrid in a technological square pot and with the substrate activated with mycorrhizal fungi and biofungicides.
