Just like humans, our cacti and succulents can suffer health setbacks that require prompt intervention to prevent their suffering or death. Fortunately, our plants are much more resistant to pests and diseases than tropical or Mediterranean plants.

PLANT PROTECTION AREAS OF ACTION:
▶ 1. PREVENTION By controlling the 6 basic principles in growing any plant: light, temperature, water, air, soil, and nutrition, health problems are minimized. And by preventing the entry of pathogens through wounds or weak points such as the neck of our plants.
▶ 2. OBSERVATION Monitoring our cacti and learning to identify and diagnose the three main threats I call "the skull trio": • Fungi • Mealybugs: scale and cottony • Mites known as red spider mites
▶ 3. INTERVENTION
▶ APPLYING DIRECT CONTROL MEASURES:
- Mechanical or physical. Anti-insect nets, hormone traps, water spraying
- Biological. Predatory insects, auxiliary fauna
- Chemical. Selective and efficient phytosanitary molecules. With the aim of achieving eradication as soon as possible.
▶ BASIC ELEMENTS OF OUR KIT:
Tools: Cutter, syringe, brush, gloves
Disinfectant: 70° alcohol for tools* NOT INCLUDED
Healing agent: Powdered sulfur to SEAL wounds and cuts
Supplement: Potassium solution
- Agricultural cleaner. To remove honeydew residues or sooty mold secretions from plant surfaces (but not to combat these harmful agents).
- Wetting and humectant agent. Adjuvant in the application of actual plant protection products.
- Industrial cleaner for agricultural machinery.
▶ PLANT PROTECTION PRODUCTS:
The four star molecules recommended by agricultural health authorities for home gardening due to their efficacy and safety profile are:
ANTIFUNGAL: Tetraconazole 12.5%
ANTI-MEALYBUG: Pyriproxyfen 10%
ACARICIDE: Clofentezin 50%
ANTI-APHID/ANTI-WHITEFLY: Acetamiprid 0.5% (Can also be used as a rescue treatment for mealybugs in case of resistance to pyriproxyfen)
