‘Nadir’ Cactus | The Master of the Andes
€53,00
🌿 Morphology A relatively fast-growing columnar cactus that can branch from the base and form large clusters. Erect stems, green to bluish-green, with 6–8 wide, rounded, slightly wavy ribs. Areoles are small, and spines are generally about 1-2 cm or even absent in adult specimens. It can exceed several meters in height under favorable conditions.
🌎 Distribution and Habitat Family Cactaceae. Native to the Andes of Ecuador and Peru, where it grows in seasonally dry tropical environments at high altitudes. It is found approximately between 1,500 and 3,000 m, in mountain areas with considerably higher rainfall than many desert cacti.
❄️ USDA and Temperature
USDA approximately 8b–11. Tolerates frosts down to –10°C. A well-acclimated and completely dry adult plant can withstand lower temperatures for short periods, but cold combined with humidity greatly increases the risk of damage and rot.
☀️ Lighting — DLI
During growth: 20–30 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹ PAR. It needs a lot of light to produce compact, robust stems but must be progressively acclimatized to intense sun. In Mediterranean summers, a specimen moved abruptly from shade to full sun may suffer sunburn.
💧 Cycle and Watering
It is primarily opportunistic, with growth favored by warm temperatures and water availability. Water thoroughly and allow the substrate to dry completely before the next watering. Respect a winter dormancy period.
🌸 Flowering
Large, white flowers with numerous petals and long floral tubes, appearing mainly during spring and summer. The flowers are nocturnal and can reach about 20 cm in length.
🌱 Nutrition
During the active growth period, fertilize with a nutrient solution high in assimilable calcium, such as Desert CHOICE Cactaceas, at moderate and regular doses. Due to its relatively fast growth, it responds well to balanced nutrition.
