€26,50
🌱 Morphology
Selected cultivar of Tulista marginata, slow-growing with a compact habit. It forms a rosette of fleshy, rigid, and pointed leaves of a medium green color, whose most spectacular feature is the intensely white margins and keel, which draw luminous lines around each leaf. It also presents some white spots scattered on both leaf surfaces. It produces few offsets and maintains an orderly and sculptural structure for years. The Japanese name Kin Orizuru alludes to a “golden paper crane,” referring to the clean and marked appearance of its leaves. Specialized literature considers it a selected clone of the species, not a hybrid.
🌍 Distribution, habitat and family
It is a cultivar, so it does not have its own natural distribution. Its parent species, Tulista marginata, is endemic to the Western Cape of South Africa, where it grows on sandstone and shale terrain, mainly in renosterveld vegetation. It belongs to Asphodelaceae, subfamily Asphodeloideae, and originates from a region with predominantly winter rainfall.
❄️ Temperature — USDA 10a
It tolerates minimum temperatures of down to −1 ºC. It is recommended to protect it from prolonged frost and avoid keeping the substrate moist during cold spells.
☀️ Lighting
Partial shade. It needs plenty of light to keep the rosette compact and, especially, to maintain the marked contrast between the green of the leaves and their white margins and keel. An illumination of 12–20 mol/m²/day of DLI PAR is recommended during active growth, with progressive adaptation to direct sun.
💧 Growth cycle and irrigation
Summer dormancy. T. marginata comes from a region with predominantly winter rainfall. Its vegetative activity increases from autumn and throughout winter and spring, while the hot and dry summer notably reduces growth. It is recommended to water thoroughly when the substrate is completely dry during the active period and to space out waterings significantly in summer.
🌸 Flowering
It produces an elevated inflorescence with small whitish tubular flowers, typical of Tulista. Flowering usually occurs in late spring and early southern summer. A specific age of first flowering has not been documented for this cultivar.
🌿 Nutrition
During the active growth period, Desert CHOICE® Aloes, Haworthias & Co. is recommended, with a high content of potassium and bioavailable calcium. Apply it with irrigation, reducing or suspending fertilization during summer dormancy.
9x9 cm gourmet black pot
