€7,95
🌱 Morphology
Succulent with initially upright stems that, with growth, become decumbent and can hang down to nearly 1 m. The stems branch from the base and develop loose rosettes with relatively spaced-out leaves. The leaves are elliptical or oblong, with rounded tips, very fleshy, and about 4–10 cm long. Their grayish-green or glaucous color is softened by a layer of farina; under intense light, lavender or purple hues may appear. The adult plant is particularly attractive in elevated pots.
🌍 Distribution, habitat, and family
Botanical species described in 1937, native to Tamaulipas, in northeastern Mexico. It is found in the Jaumave Valley, on steep slopes and in rocky environments with xerophytic vegetation and cacti, at an altitude of approximately 600–700 m. It belongs to the Crassulaceae family.
❄️ Temperature
USDA 10a: −1.1°C. This value indicates the lower limit of the climate zone, not a guaranteed minimum temperature for the species. It is recommended to protect it from frost and avoid the combination of cold and moist substrate.
☀️ Lighting
Full sun, with gradual acclimatization. As a reference, a PAR DLI of 15–25 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹ is recommended. Good lighting promotes compact growth and enhances the glaucous and purple hues. During heatwaves, it may benefit from protection from the most intense sun, while maintaining excellent ventilation.
💧 Growth cycle and watering
Summer dormancy. Growth depends on temperature and water availability and may slow down during extreme heat or cold. It is recommended to water thoroughly and allow the substrate to dry out before watering again. Waterings should be spaced out in conditions of intense heat or low temperatures. Drainage must be rapid, and waterlogging should be avoided.
🌸 Flowering
Produces inflorescences approximately 15–25 cm long, with pale pink pendant flowers and a characteristic dark carmine spot on the petals. Flowering occurs in spring. The pendant flowers are adapted to hummingbird pollination, a characteristic feature of various Pachyphytum species.
🌿 Nutrition
During the active growth period, Desert CHOICE® Succulents is recommended, applied after watering. Before flowering, it can be supplemented with Desert CHOICE® Flowering. Fertilizing is not recommended during winter dormancy.
