€15,90
🌵 Morphology
Small Mammillaria with a compact habit, featuring globose to slightly cylindrical stems, dark green in color, which can produce numerous offsets with age to form clusters. The tubercles are small and conical. Each areole is densely covered by 25–30 white, fine radial spines, which contrast with the 2 dark brown central spines, usually one of which is longer and directed downwards. The upper part of the stem is progressively covered by abundant white wool, against which the dark central spines stand out. It is precisely this contrast between the green body, the white wool, and the small brown spots that differentiates this form from other Mammillaria hahniana.
🌎 Distribution and habitat
Subspecies endemic to eastern Guanajuato, Mexico, known from the vicinity of Hacienda de Tarajeas. It grows in dry scrub and arid zone environments, adapted to stony terrain and periods of drought. It belongs to the Cactaceae family, Cactoideae subfamily, Cacteae tribe.
❄️ Temperature · USDA Zone 9b
It tolerates minimum temperatures down to −5 ºC if it remains completely dry. Although it can withstand considerable drops in temperature, the combination of cold and humidity should be avoided, especially during winter dormancy.
☀️ Lighting
Full sun or afternoon sun is recommended, with high availability of photosynthetically active radiation (DLI PAR of 20–30 mol/m²/day). Intense lighting keeps the stems compact, promotes the formation of abundant wool, and helps ensure regular flowering. Indoors, it needs a very bright location and several hours of direct sun.
💧 Growth cycle and watering
Winter dormancy. During active growth, it is recommended to water abundantly and let the substrate dry out completely before watering again. In autumn, water supply is progressively reduced, and it is kept dry during the winter. It is important to use a highly draining substrate and avoid keeping it moist for prolonged periods.
🌸 Flowering
It produces pink flowers, which appear mainly during spring and summer, forming a crown around the upper part of the stem. In well-grown specimens, flowering can be abundant and repeat throughout the growing season.
🌿 Nutrition
During active growth, Desert CHOICE® Cactaceae NPK (Ca-Mg) 4-4-7 (4-4) is recommended once a month with watering. Assimilable calcium promotes the formation of firm tissues and the maintenance of turgidity, while magnesium participates in chlorophyll synthesis. Before flowering, it can be supplemented with Desert CHOICE® Flowering.
