Haworthia parskiana var. parskiana | The smallest Haworthia in the world
€10,60
🌱 Morphology
A true miniature. A small, very slow-growing succulent that forms stemless rosettes, barely 3–4 cm in diameter, which can produce offsets until forming small clusters. Its 25–35 leaves are narrow, thick, blackish-green, and have ends that are strongly curved backwards. The surface features tiny tubercles that give it a rough texture, while the tips are barely acute. Its dark, compact appearance is reminiscent of a small vegetal hedgehog, a true miniature for collectors.
🌍 Origin, habitat, and family
It is endemic to the surroundings of Great Brak River, near Mossel Bay, in the Western Cape, South Africa. It lives in renosterveld communities with elements of karroid vegetation, on sandy soils. It hides under small shrubs, among fallen leaves, mosses, and lichens, where it finds protection from the sun and dehydration. Its distribution area is extremely small, and its populations are threatened by habitat alteration and illegal collection.
Family Asphodelaceae · Tribe Alooideae · Genus Haworthia.
❄️ Temperature — USDA 10a
It tolerates minimum temperatures of down to -1 °C for brief periods and with a dry substrate. It is advisable to protect it from frost and prolonged cold, humid conditions.
☀️ Lighting
Abundant filtered light or bright partial shade, recreating the protection of the small shrubs in its habitat. A DLI PAR guideline of 8–15 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹ promotes compact growth; intense sun that could dehydrate the leaves should be avoided.
💧 Growth cycle and watering
Summer dormancy. Its growth is favored during the cool seasons. In autumn, winter, and spring, it is recommended to water thoroughly and allow the substrate to dry out before the next watering. During the summer, significantly reduce water intake, especially with high temperatures, and maintain excellent ventilation.
🌸 Flowering
It produces a thin, simple inflorescence up to about 20 cm long, with few narrow, whitish flowers with faint greenish veins. In its habitat, it generally flowers between September and November, during the austral spring.
🌿 Nutrition
During the active growth period, Desert CHOICE® Aloes, Haworthias & Co., with high potassium and bio-assimilable calcium content, is recommended. It is applied with watering, reducing or suspending fertilization during summer dormancy.
Gourmet 7x7 cm black pot
