Haworthia 'Kikuhigasa' | Chrysanthemum Umbrella Haworthia
€10,60
🌱 Morphology
Small, slow-growing haworthia with geometric rosettes formed by numerous fleshy, narrow, and elongated leaves arranged radially. The lime-green leaves, with a slightly translucent appearance, feature small whitish dots and finely serrated margins. Under intense light, they may acquire reddish highlights. As it produces offsets, it forms compact groups reminiscent of an open chrysanthemum under an umbrella.
🌍 Origin, habitat, and family
Horticultural cultivar of Japanese origin, prized by collectors for its peculiar radial arrangement. It has no natural distribution or native wild habitat. The genus Haworthia originates from southern Africa, especially the Western and Eastern Cape provinces, where many species grow among rocks or under the protection of scrubland, with filtered light and fast-draining substrates. The genealogy and breeder of ‘Kikuhigasa’ are not conclusively documented.
Family Asphodelaceae, tribe Alooideae, genus Haworthia.
❄️ Temperature — USDA 10a
It is recommended to keep it above 0 °C and protect it from frost, especially when the substrate is moist.
☀️ Lighting
It prefers abundant indirect light or bright partial shade. Avoid the intense Madrid summer sun, which can cause burns and excessive reddish coloration. A guideline PAR DLI of 8–15 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹ promotes compact growth.
💧 Growth cycle and watering
Opportunistic, with growth preferred in mild conditions. Water thoroughly and allow the substrate to dry before watering again. During intense heat, reduce watering if the plant slows its activity; in winter, water moderately and prevent the roots from remaining moist for prolonged periods.
🌸 Flowering
It may produce slender flower stalks with small whitish and tubular flowers, understated compared to the appeal of its leaves.
🌿 Nutrition
During the active growth period, Desert CHOICE® Aloes, Haworthias & Co. is recommended, with a high content of potassium and bioavailable calcium. Apply with watering, reducing or suspending fertilization during the summer dormancy.
Gourmet black pot, 8x8 cm
This is an inimitable xerophyte cultivated in Madrid in a high-tech square pot with substrate activated with mycorrhizal fungi and biofungicides.
