🌱 Morphology
From the Far East... An ornamental cultivar of Asian origin that develops a compact and very orderly rosette, formed by thick, fleshy, and densely imbricated leaves. The leaves, with a triangular to spatulate profile, show a marked gray-green or bluish hue covered by an abundant whitish farina, responsible for its characteristic snowy appearance. Under high light intensity, pink or purple tones may appear on the tips and margins, creating a delicate contrast with the silvery surface. It produces offsets with maturity and can form small groups of rosettes. The Chinese trade name 雪塔 literally means “snow tower”.
🌍 Distribution, habitat, and family
It is an ornamental cultivar, with no known natural distribution, belonging to the Crassulaceae family. No reliable documentation has been found regarding its breeder, year of creation, or parent plants, so no specific genealogy is attributed to it. Currently, it is widely marketed by specialized nurseries in Yunnan (China) and other Asian markets under the name Echeveria ‘Snow Tower’.
❄️ Temperature
USDA 9b. It tolerates minimum temperatures of up to −4 ºC briefly and when the substrate is kept dry. As there is no specific experimental documentation on the resistance of this cultivar, this figure should be considered conservative.
☀️ Lighting
Full sun, with an approximate PAR DLI of 20–30 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹. Abundant light promotes the compactness of the rosette and maintains the white farina and pink tones of the tips. In very warm climates, gradual acclimatization to direct sunlight and some protection during the hours of maximum radiation are advisable.
💧 Growth cycle and watering
Winter dormancy. During active growth, it is recommended to water thoroughly and allow the substrate to dry out completely before the next watering. In winter, watering is considerably reduced and, with low temperatures, it can be kept practically dry. As with other echeverias with densely grouped leaves, it is essential to prevent moisture from remaining in the center of the rosette. Commercial cultivation also recommends a system of abundant watering followed by complete drying of the substrate.
🌸 Flowering
It may produce flower stalks that emerge from the rosette with small flowers typical of the Echeveria genus, generally in pink, orange, or yellowish tones. No reliable documentation specific to ‘Snow Tower’ has been found that allows establishing the age of the first flowering, the exact months of flowering, its ability to re-flower within the same season, or its self-fertility.
🌿 Nutrition
During the active growth period, Desert CHOICE® Succulents is recommended, applied after watering. Before flowering, it can be supplemented with Desert CHOICE® Flowering. Fertilizing is not recommended during winter dormancy.
