🌱 Morphology
Succulent that forms compact rosettes approximately 8–12 cm in diameter, which can grow larger in cultivation. Its numerous leaves are relatively thin, obovate to spatulate, with a rounded tip and deeply wavy, ruffled, and delicately crinkled margins, like plant lace. The surface has glaucous green to silvery-gray tones, often with pink hues on the edges when exposed to good light and cool temperatures. With age, it can develop a short stem and produce offsets.
🌍 Distribution, habitat, and family
Species native to northeast Mexico, associated with dry scrubland environments and rocky outcrops. It grows well in bright conditions, with ventilation and fast-draining substrate. Family Crassulaceae, series Angulatae.
❄️ Temperature
USDA 9b (−3.9 °C) as a general cultivation guideline. It is preferable to protect it from persistent frosts and, especially, from the combination of cold and moisture. The USDA zone limit does not guarantee the individual tolerance of the plant.
☀️ Lighting
Bright partial shade, DLI PAR 12–20 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹. It appreciates intense light, with soft morning sun or filtered light. It can acclimate to more sun, but intense summer sun can damage its delicate leaves. Abundant light promotes a compact shape and pink hues on the margins.
💧 Growth cycle and watering
Opportunistic, with growth favored by moderate temperatures. It is recommended to water thoroughly and allow the substrate to dry out completely before watering again. Reduce watering during cold periods and heatwaves, avoiding waterlogging and persistent moisture in the center of the rosette.
🌸 Flowering
Produces flower stalks that emerge from the rosette and bear bell-shaped flowers in pink to coral tones. Flowering usually occurs during the growing season, often from late spring or in summer, depending on growing conditions. There is insufficient data to determine the age of first flowering or confirm its reblooming nature.
🌿 Nutrition
During the active growing period, Desert CHOICE® Succulents is recommended, applied after watering. Before flowering, it can be supplemented with Desert CHOICE® Flowering. Fertilizing is not recommended during winter dormancy.
