🌱 Morphology
A slow-growing succulent that forms compact rosettes approximately 12–15 cm in diameter, reaching nearly 20 cm under favorable conditions. Its fleshy, obovate leaves, which range in color from gray-green to bluish white, are covered in an abundant waxy bloom. Its most extraordinary feature is its intensely curled, wavy, irregular margins, which give the rosette a sculptural appearance, almost like plant lace. Delicate pink hues may appear in bright light and cool nights.
🌍 Distribution, habitat, and family
Horticultural cultivar attributed to a somatic mutation of Echeveria lilacina, associated with the collection of grower Gerardus Olsthoorn. Its origin is considered probable but has not been fully clarified. The reference species, E. lilacina, is native to Mexico. Family Crassulaceae. As a cultivar, it has no natural distribution of its own.
❄️ Temperature
USDA 10a (−1.1 °C) as a conservative reference. It is sensitive to frost and should be protected from severe cold, especially if the substrate is wet. The USDA zone limit does not guarantee an individual plant’s tolerance.
☀️ Lighting
Gentle full sun, DLI PAR 15–25 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹, with gradual acclimation. Abundant light helps keep the rosette compact and encourages pink hues. In summer, more intense sun can cause burns; a spot with morning sun and protection during the hottest hours is recommended. Avoid touching the leaves to preserve the bloom.
💧 Growth cycle and watering
Opportunistic, with growth favored by moderate temperatures. Water thoroughly and allow the substrate to dry completely before watering again. Reduce watering during cold weather and heat waves. The dense rosette requires good ventilation to prevent moisture trapped between the leaves from promoting rot.
🌸 Flowering
In summer, it may produce arching flower stalks with clusters of coral-pink flowers, whose petals also have wavy edges. There is not enough reliable data to specify the age at first flowering or confirm whether it is a repeat bloomer.
🌿 Nutrition
During the active growing period, we recommend Desert CHOICE® Succulents, applied after watering. Before flowering, it can be supplemented with Desert CHOICE® Bloom. Fertilizing is not recommended during winter dormancy.
