🌱 Morphology: Variegated cultivar of Aeonium 'Bronze Medal', low-growing, compact, and very branched. It forms numerous short stems ending in small rosettes, about 6 cm in diameter. The leaves are fleshy and present an attractive combination of green, cream, yellow, and pink, often with a darker stripe in the center and a thin reddish margin. With plenty of light, the pink tones intensify. Some offsets may have almost completely yellow areas due to their low chlorophyll content.
🌍 Distribution, habitat, and family: It is a horticultural cultivar, with no natural distribution of its own. It belongs to the Crassulaceae family. Its origin is in Asian horticulture and it is currently cultivated and marketed internationally. It also appears commercially as 'Bronze Medal Variegated', 'Sweet Tea', and 'Cream Tea'.
❄️ Temperature: Approximately USDA 10a–11b. For cultivation in Spain, I recommend keeping it above 5 °C, although some growers indicate that it can briefly withstand around 0–2 °C in dry conditions. Cold combined with humidity greatly increases the risk of rot.
☀️ Lighting: Approximate target of 15–25 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹ of PAR DLI during growth. It needs plenty of light to maintain its variegation and compact growth, but the yellow and cream areas are more sensitive to sunburn. In Madrid, it should be protected from the most intense direct sun during heatwaves.
💧 Growth cycle: Mainly active in autumn, spring, and temperate periods, greatly reducing its activity with intense summer heat. During growth, water thoroughly and allow the substrate to dry completely before the next watering. In summer, drastically reduce watering and keep it very dry during heat episodes.
🌸 Flowering: Flowering is poorly documented and has not been consistently observed in cultivation. Therefore, I do not recommend assigning a specific month to it in the commercial ficha.
🌿 Nutrition: During active growth, Desert CHOICE at a moderate dose. Reduce or suspend fertilization during summer dormancy.
