Echeveria 'Tamina' | Mother-of-pearl and garnet rosette
€10,60
🌱 Morphology
Forms compact, symmetrical rosettes approximately 8–12 cm in diameter. Its fleshy, small, ovate to triangular leaves end in a soft tip and have a glaucous light green epidermis, with pink or reddish hues toward the margins and the apex. Small reddish spots may appear on the leaf surface, giving it a mottled appearance. The combination of tones is reminiscent of Echeveria pulidonis, although the rosette shape and the distribution of the spots may vary depending on the specimen and growing conditions.
🌍 Distribution, habitat, and family
It is a horticultural hybrid of unconfirmed origin and parentage, obtained in cultivation. A possible involvement of Echeveria moranii has been informally suggested, but there is insufficient documentation to validate it; the involvement of E. pulidonis is also not proven. Therefore, it has no wild distribution or known natural habitat of its own. It belongs to the Crassulaceae family.
❄️ Temperature
USDA 9b: −3.9 °C. This value represents the lower climatic limit of the USDA zone, not a proven cold tolerance for 'Tamina'. Given that no specific resistance trials are available, conservative protection against frost is recommended, especially in high ambient humidity or with wet substrate.
☀️ Lighting
Full sun, with a guideline reference of DLI PAR 20–30 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹. Abundant lighting promotes compact growth and the appearance of pink and reddish tones. It is recommended to gradually acclimate it to direct sun and protect it from the most intense radiation if it is not accustomed to it.
💧 Growth cycle and watering
Winter dormancy. It is recommended to water thoroughly during growth and allow the substrate to dry out before the next watering. In winter, water intake is significantly reduced, adapting it to the temperature and the plant's activity. It is important to avoid waterlogging and persistent moisture between the leaves.
🌸 Flowering
I have not found a sufficiently reliable description of the specific flowering of 'Tamina' to specify the color of its flowers, the usual months, or the length of its flower stalks. Nor are the age of first flowering, self-fertility, or the appearance of multiple flowering pulses during the same season documented with sufficient certainty.
🌿 Nutrition
During the active growth period, Desert CHOICE® Succulents is recommended, applied after watering. Before flowering, it can be supplemented with Desert CHOICE® Flowering. During winter dormancy, fertilization is not recommended.
This is an inimitable xerophyte grown in Madrid in a technological square pot and with the substrate activated with mycorrhizal fungi and biofungicides.
