🌱 Morphology
Collection horticultural selection of the daruma type, characterized by its compact habit and its fleshy, broad leaves with rounded tips. The Japanese cultivar ‘OZ Pink Daruma’, classified within the hybrids of the picta group, stands out for reaching a considerable size and developing a striking pink hue. The intensity of the color can vary depending on the clone, lighting, temperature, and physiological state of the plant. As occurs with many Haworthias, the old roots can deteriorate during the summer dormancy and renew when growth resumes in autumn.
🌍 Origin, habitat and family
Collection horticultural cultivar, with no confirmed genetic origin. Cactus Nishi documents ‘OZ Pink Daruma’ among its selections of picta hybrids. The genus Haworthia is native to southern Africa.
Family Asphodelaceae · Tribe Alooideae · Genus Haworthia.
❄️ Temperature — USDA 10a
It is advisable to keep it above -1 °C and protect it from frost, especially when the substrate is wet. It tolerates heat if it has ventilation and protection from intense sun.
☀️ Lighting
Abundant filtered light or bright partial shade. Proper lighting can favor the expression of pink tones, but intense direct sun can cause burns. Indicative PAR DLI: 8–15 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹.
💧 Growth cycle and watering
Summer dormancy. During the cool seasons, water thoroughly and let the substrate dry before repeating. During periods of intense heat, reduce watering and promote ventilation. Gradually resume watering in autumn, when temperatures drop and root growth reactivates. Avoid waterlogging.
🌸 Flowering
Produces an elongated inflorescence with small whitish tubular flowers, discreet compared to the appeal of its rosette.
🌿 Nutrition
During active growth, Desert CHOICE® Aloes, Haworthias & Co., NPK 3-2-8 with calcium and magnesium is recommended. Reduce or suspend fertilization during summer dormancy.
Gourmet black pot 10x10 cm
