Echeveria 'Cubic Frost' | The Geometric Ice Rose
ā¬15,90
š± Morphology
Hybrid created by Renee OāConnell by crossing Echeveria āDopplerā Ć Echeveria āR-21ā, carried out in 2011 in Vista, California. It forms a very geometric and concentric rosette, measuring about 17ā18 cm, composed of numerous fleshy, glaucous, slightly tubular and upright leaves with gently wavy margins. The leaves, measuring about 5.7 cm in length on average, take on shades of lilac, pink-lilac, bluish-gray and purple, with the apex more intensely colored. It grows relatively quickly and produces numerous offsets, easily forming compact clumps. It also reproduces particularly well from leaf cuttings.
š Distribution, habitat and family
Crassulaceae family.
āCubic Frostā is a horticultural hybrid, so it has no natural distribution and should not be assigned a taxonomic series. It was selected in a commercial greenhouse in Vista, California, where the original plant was discovered by Renee OāConnell in September 2011.
āļø Temperature
USDA 9b. It tolerates minimum temperatures of up to ā2 ĀŗC according to the patent, provided the episode is brief and the substrate remains dry. The patent documentation itself records growing trials between approximately ā1 and 29 ĀŗC and states a tolerance of approximately ā2 to 32 ĀŗC.
āļø Lighting
Full sun, with an approximate PAR DLI of 20ā30 mol/m²/day. High light availability maintains the compact architecture and promotes lilac and pink tones. In summer, especially in very hot climates, it may benefit from protection during the hours of maximum radiation.
š§ Growth cycle and watering
Opportunistic. Its vigor and growth capacity allow it to remain active for much of the year when it has suitable temperatures and light. During active growth, it is recommended to water abundantly and let the substrate dry out completely before the next watering. At low temperatures and with little light, watering frequency should be greatly reduced.
šø Flowering
It is a floriferous Echeveria, with natural flowering mainly in spring and summer. The lateral inflorescences can reach about 50 cm and produce extraordinarily striking flowers: the corolla has an irregular, almost sculptural shape, with recurved outer petals and a combination of pink, coral and yellow tones.Ā
šæ Nutrition
During the active growth period, Desert CHOICEĀ® Succulents is recommended, applied after watering. Before flowering, it can be supplemented with Desert CHOICEĀ® Flowering. During winter dormancy, fertilization is not recommended.
