🌱 Morphology
   Reciprocal hybrid of Tulista marginata ♀ × Tulista pumila ♂, which combines the relatively more open rosette and rigid leaves of T. marginata with the volume, thickness, and tuberculate ornamentation of T. pumila. It forms a compact to semi-erect rosette with fleshy, triangular, and firm leaves, ranging from green to olive green. The margins and keel display a characteristic white ornamentation, while the leaf surface may present scattered white tubercles. As occurs with reciprocal Tulista hybrids, the result is not necessarily identical to that obtained by reversing the parents: the maternal parent can influence the habit and the expression of certain traits. The name ‘Carinata’ is currently used for this T. marginata × T. pumila combination.

🌍 Distribution, habitat, and family
This is a horticultural hybrid and does not have a natural distribution of its own. Its parents are endemic to the Western Cape of South Africa, in a region with predominantly winter rainfall. It belongs to Asphodelaceae, subfamily Asphodeloideae. Tulista marginata and T. pumila are part of the small group of four Tulista species from southwestern South Africa.

❄️ Temperature — USDA 10a
It tolerates minimum temperatures down to −1 ºC. It is recommended to protect it from prolonged frosts and to prevent the substrate from remaining wet during cold spells.

☀️ Lighting
Partial shade. It needs abundant light to maintain a compact structure and properly develop the white ornamentation on the leaves and keel. We recommend lighting of 12–20 mol/m²/day of DLI PAR during active growth, with gradual adaptation to direct sun.

💧 Growth cycle and watering
Summer dormancy. The combination of its two parents comes from regions with mainly autumn and winter rainfall. Growth is concentrated from autumn to spring. It is recommended to water when the substrate is completely dry during the active period and to drastically reduce watering in summer, especially at high temperatures.

🌸 Flowering
It produces an elevated inflorescence with whitish tubular flowers. Flowering usually occurs in late spring and early austral summer. No reliable data has been found on the specific age of first flowering for ‘Carinata’.

🌿 Nutrition
