🌱 Morphology
A trailing and cascading hybrid with fleshy stems that elongate and end in loose rosettes. Its leaves are very thick, elongated, and almond-shaped, measuring up to 8–10 cm in length. The color varies from dark green and greenish-gray to pink, reddish, and purplish tones, which intensify with abundant light. The farina can provide a slightly matte finish. Over time, the stems arch and cascade over the edge of the pot, making it ideal for elevated containers.
🌍 Origin, genealogy, and family
A horticultural hybrid created by Captain Jessop in England by crossing ** Pachyphytum oviferum × Pachyphytum viride**. In 1978, he gave the plant to Brian and Gillian Fearn of the Abbey Brook nursery, who helped popularize it. It belongs to the Crassulaceae family. As it is a garden hybrid, it has no natural distribution of its own.
❄️ Temperature
USDA 10a: −1.1°C. This value indicates the lower limit of the climate zone, not a guaranteed cold tolerance for the cultivar. It is recommended to grow it protected from frost and avoid keeping it cold and damp for prolonged periods.
☀️ Lighting
Full sun, with gradual acclimatization. As a reference, a DLI PAR of 15–25 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹ is recommended. Intense light promotes pink and purple tones, although during heatwaves it is advisable to protect it from the most intense sun to avoid burns.
💧 Growth cycle and watering
Summer dormancy under conditions of intense heat. During growth periods, it is recommended to water thoroughly and allow the substrate to dry out completely before the next watering. In summer, if growth stops, watering is spaced out; in winter, water intake is also reduced when temperatures drop. An airy, fast-draining substrate is essential.
🌸 Flowering
Produces elongated flower stems with cream-colored flowers and reddish centers. The flowers contrast with the tones of the leaves and allow the hybrid nature of the plant to be appreciated.
🌿 Nutrition
During the active growth period, Desert CHOICE® Succulents is recommended, applied after watering. Before flowering, it can be supplemented with Desert CHOICE® Flowering. Fertilizing is not recommended during winter dormancy.
