🌱 Morphology
    An arborescent cactus with relatively fast growth under favorable conditions, which can reach about 4–5 m in height. It forms a short trunk and numerous ascending branches, bluish-green or glaucous in color, generally 6–10 cm in diameter. It has 5–7 low, rounded ribs with separated areoles. The spines are short on young branches, with 5–9 grayish radial ones and one central spine that is much more robust, up to 7 cm long, and initially dark. With age, it develops a very characteristic treelike silhouette.

🌍 Distribution, habitat, and family
Endemic to Mexico, widely distributed throughout the arid and semi-arid regions of the center of the country. It mainly inhabits xerophilous scrub and tropical deciduous forest on rocky terrain and, in certain areas, limestone or gypsum soils. It is found at altitudes of approximately 900 to 2,100 m. It belongs to the Cactaceae family, Cactoideae subfamily, and Echinocereeae tribe.

It tolerates minimum temperatures of up to −4 ºC in dry conditions and with good acclimatization. Young specimens are more sensitive to cold and prolonged humidity.

☀️ Lighting
It needs very intense lighting and several hours of direct sun, with progressive acclimatization. Bright exposure promotes the bluish coloration of the stems. As a general guide during active growth, a DLI PAR of 20–30 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹ is recommended.

💧 Growth cycle and watering
Winter rest. During spring and summer, it is recommended to water abundantly and allow the substrate to dry out completely before the next watering. In winter, it should be kept practically dry, especially at low temperatures.

🌸 Flowering
The flowers are cream or greenish-white, approximately 2–3.5 cm in diameter, and appear laterally on the areoles during the warm season. After flowering, it develops globose fruits that are dark red, purple, or bluish, about 1–2 cm, known in Mexico as garambullos and appreciated for their juicy pulp.

🌿 Nutrition
During the active growth period, a fertilizer with a high content of assimilable calcium and low nitrogen levels, such as Desert CHOICE® Cactaceae, is recommended, applied once a month when watering. Before flowering, it can be supplemented with Desert CHOICE® Flowering.
