Haworthia cymbiformis f. variegata | Jade and Ivory Boat Haworthia
€25,00
🌱 Morphology
Relatively slow-growing succulent that forms stemless rosettes, capable of reaching about 15 cm in diameter and spreading through abundant offsets. Its leaves are fleshy, soft, and translucent, shaped like small boats with rounded ends. The variegation features longitudinal white, cream, and light green bands, with proportions varying according to the leaf and the rosette. Some plants produce completely green or almost white offsets; the former may lose their variegated appeal, while the latter often struggle to grow due to their low chlorophyll content.
🌍 Origin, habitat, and family
It is a variegated form of horticultural origin derived from Haworthia cymbiformis, a species native to the Eastern Cape, South Africa. The wild species is distributed from the surroundings of Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) to East London, with inland populations towards Adelaide and the Fish River. It grows in rock crevices and sheltered places, where vegetation or stones soften sun exposure. The variegated form has no natural locality of its own.
Family Asphodelaceae · Tribe Alooideae · Genus Haworthia.
❄️ Temperature — USDA 10a
Tolerates minimum temperatures down to −1 °C for short periods and with dry substrate. It is advisable to protect it from prolonged frost and damp cold.
☀️ Lighting
Prefers abundant filtered light or bright partial shade. Intense sun can burn the white areas, which contain less chlorophyll. An approximate DLI PAR of 8–15 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹ promotes compact growth and helps maintain the contrast of the variegation.
💧 Growth cycle and watering
Opportunistic. It can grow when moderate temperatures, adequate light, and available moisture coincide. It is recommended to water thoroughly and allow the substrate to dry before the next watering. During extreme heat or cold, reduce water supply and avoid waterlogging.
🌸 Flowering
Produces a thin, elongated inflorescence with small, whitish, tubular flowers, marked by greenish or brownish lines. Its main ornamental appeal lies in the translucent leaves and their white and green patterns.
🌿 Nutrition
During the active growth period, Desert CHOICE® Aloes, Haworthias & Co. is recommended, with a high content of potassium and bioavailable calcium. It is applied with watering, reducing or suspending fertilization during periods of rest or inactivity.
