Haworthia x cuspitata | Haworthia star windows
€7,95
🌱 Morphology
Small, stemless succulent that forms compact, star-shaped rosettes measuring about 6–10 cm in diameter. Its leaves are short, thick, triangular, and pointed, ranging from lime green to grayish-green. The tips feature translucent, glass-like windows, crossed by darker green areas that resemble small stained-glass windows. The leaves, shorter and sturdier than those of many forms of Haworthia cymbiformis, are densely arranged and produce abundant basal offsets, forming tight clumps.
🌍 Origin, habitat, and family
It is a historic horticultural hybrid known since the early 19th century. The name Haworthia cuspidata was published in 1819 based on a plant cultivated in Kew, England, with no reliable data on its origin. It has been proposed that it comes from a cross between Haworthia retusa × Haworthia cymbiformis, although this ancestry has not been proven. Therefore, it cannot be assigned its own wild locality or natural habitat.
Family Asphodelaceae · Tribe Alooideae · Genus Haworthia.
❄️ Temperature — USDA 10a
Tolerates minimum temperatures close to −1 °C for short periods and with dry substrate. It is advisable to protect it from prolonged frosts and damp cold.
☀️ Lighting
Prefers abundant filtered light or bright partial shade. Too intense exposure can cause reddish tones and burns, while a lack of light weakens the rosette. A PAR DLI of 8–15 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹ promotes compact growth and well-defined windows.
💧 Growth cycle and watering
Opportunistic. It can grow when moderate temperatures, sufficient light, and available moisture coincide. It is recommended to water thoroughly and let the substrate dry before the next watering. During intense heat, reduce watering; avoid both waterlogging and prolonged root dehydration.
🌸 Flowering
Produces a slender, elongated inflorescence with small whitish tubular flowers marked by greenish or brownish lines. Flowering is discreet and is usually overshadowed by the star-shaped form and transparent windows of the leaves.
🌿 Nutrition
During the active growth period, Desert CHOICE® Aloes, Haworthias & Co. is recommended, with a high content of potassium and bioavailable calcium. Apply with watering, reducing or suspending fertilization during periods of dormancy or inactivity.
9x9 cm pot
This is an inimitable xerophyte cultivated in Madrid in a technological square pot with substrate activated with mycorrhizal fungi.
