Haworthia 'Xishan' | Green Marble Window Haworthia
€31,80
🌱 Morphology
A collector’s Haworthia that forms compact rosettes of thick, fleshy, triangular leaves arranged in a spiral. The leaves range in color from grayish green to emerald green, with flattened or slightly truncated tips that form broad translucent windows, crossed by light longitudinal lines and net-like patterns. The terminal surfaces may have silvery tones, and the tips may develop reddish hues. The contrast between the green tissue, pale lines, and luminous windows creates the appearance of worked green marble. The leaves remain firm and spreading, forming a geometric rosette that may widen with age. Its appearance is reminiscent of retuse Haworthias, although plants sold as ‘Xishan magnifica’ also show visual affinities with Haworthia magnifica.
🌍 Origin, habitat, and family
‘Xishan’ is a horticultural selection marketed in Asia, especially by Chinese and Japanese suppliers. Some catalogs identify it as Haworthia Xishan magnifica, suggesting a possible relationship with H. magnifica, but not proving its genetic origin. It has no confirmed wild locality of its own. The species Haworthia magnifica, used as a commercial reference, is native to the Western Cape, South Africa, especially the area around Riversdale, where it grows in rocky terrain, among crevices and low-growing vegetation. Its dark leaves, rough surfaces, and slightly translucent windows are characteristic of the group.
Family Asphodelaceae · Tribe Alooideae · Genus Haworthia.
❄️ Temperature — USDA 10a
It is best kept above 0 °C and protected from frost, especially when the substrate is wet.
☀️ Lighting
Bright filtered light or bright partial shade. Gradual exposure encourages compact growth and showcases the translucent windows. Avoid sudden, intense sunlight, which can cause sunburn and dehydration. Suggested DLI PAR: 8–15 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹.
💧 Growth cycle and watering
Summer dormancy. Growth is encouraged during the cooler seasons. In autumn, winter, and spring, water thoroughly and allow the substrate to dry out completely before watering again. In summer, reduce watering when temperatures are high and ensure good ventilation, avoiding persistent moisture around the roots.
🌸 Flowering
It produces a slender, elongated inflorescence with small, whitish tubular flowers marked with greenish or brownish lines. Flowering is understated; its main ornamental appeal lies in the geometry of its leaves and their broad windows.
🌿 Nutrition
During the active growing period, we recommend Desert CHOICE® Aloes, Haworthias & Co., which is high in potassium and bioavailable calcium. Apply with watering, reducing or suspending fertilization during summer dormancy.
