€7,95
🌱 Morphology
A slow-growing, perennial succulent that forms robust rosettes 5–10 cm in diameter, occasionally larger. Each rosette usually gathers between 10 and 15 thick, rigid, and fleshy leaves, which are glossy dark green, brownish-green, or tinted with purple under intense light. The leaves are triangular, more elongated, and less flattened than those of the typical form of Haworthia retusa. Their tips curve backward and end in truncate surfaces, which are slightly sunken and feature translucent windows marked by vertical green lines. The leaves are smooth, without prominent tubercles or spines, and may feature a small terminal point. In cultivation, it produces offsets and can form dense clusters.
🌍 Origin, habitat, and family
Its classic locality is Grootvlei farm, in the Riversdale district, Western Cape, South Africa, at an altitude of approximately 200 m. It grows on grassy slopes and open, well-draining terrain, both in exposed areas and among shrubs. Local rainfall is relatively scarce, so the roots require an aerated substrate that allows them to utilize water without retaining moisture for too long. In its habitat, it may remain partially buried, with only the leaf windows exposed.
Family Asphodelaceae · Tribe Alooideae · Genus Haworthia.
❄️ Temperature — USDA 10a
It is advisable to keep it above 0 °C and protect it from frost, especially when the substrate is damp.
☀️ Lighting
Abundant filtered light or bright partial shade. It can tolerate relatively open exposure if acclimated gradually, but intense sun can cause sunburn. Indicative DLI PAR: 8–15 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹.
💧 Growth cycle and watering
Opportunistic. It can grow when moderate temperatures, adequate light, and available moisture coincide. It is recommended to water thoroughly and let the substrate dry out before the next watering. During heatwaves, reduce water intake and maintain good ventilation.
🌸 Flowering
Produces a simple inflorescence that can reach about 30 cm, with small white flowers marked by greenish or brownish lines. It may bloom during spring and early summer, although the timing depends on cultivation conditions.
🌿 Nutrition
During the active growth period, Desert CHOICE® Aloes, Haworthias & Co. is recommended, with a high content of potassium and bioavailable calcium. Apply with watering, reducing or suspending fertilization during periods of rest or inactivity.
