€21,20
🌱 Morphology
Slow-growing succulent that forms compact rosettes, generally about 5–10 cm in diameter. Its leaves are thick, fleshy, and dark green, often with grayish hues. They are distinguished by their noticeably elongated and pointed tips, which contrast with the more rounded apices of the typical variety of Haworthia pygmaea. The terminal surfaces are flattened or slightly truncated, with translucent windows traversed by fine longitudinal lines. It can produce offsets and form clusters over time.
🌍 Origin, habitat, and family
It is known from the Riversdale district, in the Western Cape, South Africa, especially north of Gouritzmond. Related populations have also been documented in Melkhoutfontein, near the Gouritz River, and in Vleesbaai. It grows in stony ground and rocky outcrops, including ancient river deposits and substrates of limestone or siliceous origin. The vegetation is open, typical of coastal renosterveld. Rainfall is moderate, mainly in winter, although there are local variations.
Family Asphodelaceae · Tribe Alooideae · Genus Haworthia.
❄️ Temperature — USDA 10a
It is advisable to keep it above -1°C and protect it from frost, especially when the substrate is damp.
☀️ Lighting
Abundant filtered light or bright partial shade. Avoid sudden intense sun, which can dehydrate the leaves and cause sunburn. Indicative DLI PAR: 8–15 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹.
💧 Growth cycle and watering
Summer dormancy. Its growth occurs mainly during the cool seasons. In autumn, winter, and spring, water thoroughly and let the substrate dry out before the next watering. In summer, reduce water intake during heatwaves and maintain good ventilation.
🌸 Flowering
It produces an erect, simple inflorescence with small whitish flowers streaked with greenish lines. Flowering usually coincides with the austral spring, although it can vary depending on the population and cultivation conditions.
🌿 Nutrition
During the active growth period, Desert CHOICE® Aloes, Haworthias & Co. is recommended, with a high content of potassium and bioavailable calcium. It is applied with watering, reducing or suspending fertilization during summer dormancy.
