Haworthia marumiana 'Kezagato' | Emerald Lace Haworthia
€10,60
🌱 Morphology
A collector's cultivar that retains the compact and prolific character of Haworthia marumiana. It forms small rosettes with fleshy, narrow, and ascending leaves, green in color, which can darken or acquire purplish hues under intense lighting. The leaves feature a reticulated pattern on the surface, with margins and keels provided with small teeth that add texture and a delicate, lace-like appearance. The rosette produces offsets from the base and can form dense clusters over time.
🌍 Origin, habitat, and family
The species Haworthia marumiana is native to South Africa and has a discontinuous distribution between the Eastern Cape and the Western Cape. Bruce Bayer documents populations in the vicinity of Graaff-Reinet, Cradock, Murraysburg, and Beaufort West, where it grows in cliff crevices and rocky outcrops. The habitat combines hot summers, dry periods, and variable rainfall, with spring and summer contributions in some locations. The rocks provide protection from the sun and allow the roots to find small moisture reserves. ‘Kezagato’ is a horticultural selection and does not have a wild locality of its own; I have not found reliable information about its breeder.
Family Asphodelaceae, tribe Alooideae, genus Haworthia.
❄️ Temperature — USDA 10a
It is recommended to protect it from frost and avoid cold combined with humidity in the roots. As a conservative guideline, it is advisable to keep it above -1 °C.
☀️ Lighting
Abundant filtered light or bright semi-shade. An approximate DLI PAR of 8–15 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹ promotes compact growth and helps preserve the leaf pattern. Strong sun can cause burns and excessively dark coloration.
💧 Growth cycle and watering
Opportunistic. It can grow when moderate temperatures, adequate lighting, and available moisture coincide. It is recommended to water thoroughly and allow the substrate to dry before repeating. During intense heat or periods of lower activity, watering should be spaced out. Prolonged waterlogging can damage the roots.
🌸 Flowering
It produces a thin, elongated inflorescence with small white, tubular flowers with greenish lines. In the species, flowering occurs mainly during the austral summer.
🌿 Nutrition
During the active growth period, Desert CHOICE® Aloes, Haworthias & Co. is recommended, with a high content of potassium and bioavailable calcium. It is applied with watering, reducing or suspending fertilization during periods of rest or inactivity.
9x9 cm gourmet black pot
This is an inimitable xerophyte grown in Madrid in a high-tech square pot with the substrate activated with mycorrhizal fungi and biofungicides.
