Haworthia 'Luteorosea' | Haworthia green star
€7,95
🌱 Morphology
A compact succulent cultivar that develops rosettes approximately 4–6 cm in diameter. Its leaves are narrow, fleshy, and pointed, ranging from bright green to dark green. The margins and keel are adorned with small whitish teeth that, when densely arranged, create a delicate silver border. The surface may feature small lighter spots and lines, while the young leaves remain upright and the outer ones gradually open. Its appearance is reminiscent of a small plant star surrounded by tiny white sparkles. It is a slow-growing Haworthia that can produce offsets and form clumps over time.
🌍 Origin, habitat, and family
It is a historical name of South African origin, published by Uitewaal in 1939. The original locality was indicated uncertainly, probably in the vicinity of Grahamstown —now Makhanda—, in the Eastern Cape. Bruce Bayer later associated the plants that fit the description with the Haworthia herbacea complex, widespread throughout the Robertson Karoo and areas near Worcester, in the Western Cape. They inhabit stony ground, between crevices and low vegetation, where rapid drainage and partial protection from the sun favor their development. As it is an old horticultural selection, it cannot be ensured that all specimens marketed under this name correspond to a single origin or clone.
Family Asphodelaceae · Tribe Alooideae · Genus Haworthia.
❄️ Temperature — USDA 10a
It is advisable to keep it above -1°C and protect it from frost, especially when the substrate is moist.
☀️ Lighting
It prefers abundant filtered light or bright partial shade. Good lighting helps keep the rosettes compact and highlights the white teeth on the margins, but intense and sudden sun should be avoided. Indicative DLI PAR: 8–15 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹.
💧 Growth cycle and watering
Summer dormancy. Its growth is favored during the cooler seasons. In autumn, winter, and spring, it is recommended to water thoroughly and let the substrate dry before the next watering. During the summer, reduce watering as temperatures rise and ensure adequate ventilation, avoiding persistent moisture around the roots.
🌸 Flowering
It produces a fine, elongated inflorescence with small cream to beige flowers that may show pink or yellowish hues. The combination of color and the arrangement of the floral segments was precisely one of the features that motivated the historical description of Haworthia luteorosea.
🌿 Nutrition
During the active growth period, Desert CHOICE® Aloes, Haworthias & Co. is recommended, with a high content of potassium and bioavailable calcium. Apply with watering, reducing or suspending fertilization during summer dormancy.
