🌱 Morphology
Slow-growing Haworthia hybrid with compact rosettes and fleshy, triangular leaves with flattened tips. Its most striking feature is its whitish leaf windows, with a granular texture and frosted appearance, which may resemble small inverted hearts. The contrast between the somewhat muted green of the leaves and the crystalline white of their tips gives it the appearance of sugared porcelain. Over time, it can produce offsets and form dense clusters.
🌍 Origin, habitat and family
Horticultural cultivar of Asian origin, popularized especially by Japanese collectors. It is marketed as Haworthia ‘Love Heart’ and is associated with hybrid lines of Haworthia wimii; some sources also suggest a possible relationship with H. mirabilis var. badia, although there is no conclusive confirmation of its genealogy. Therefore, this cultivar should not be attributed to a specific wild locality. Its parents and related species come from South Africa, where they grow in rocky areas, often partially protected by stones and shrubs, in filtered light.
Family Asphodelaceae, tribe Alooideae, genus Haworthia.
❄️ Temperature — USDA 10a
It is best to protect it from frost and keep it above -1 °C, especially when the substrate is damp.
☀️ Lighting
Prefers abundant but filtered light, or bright semi-shade. Intense direct sun can burn the windows and alter the coloration. A guide DLI PAR of 8–15 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹ helps to maintain a compact rosette and highlight the contrast between the green and white.
💧 Growth cycle and watering
Opportunistic, with growth preferred in mild conditions. Water thoroughly and allow the substrate to dry out before repeating. During intense heat, reduce watering if the plant slows its activity. Avoid waterlogging and persistent moisture around the roots.
🌸 Flowering
It can produce thin floral stalks with small, whitish flowers that are discreet compared to the appeal of its leaf windows.
🌿 Nutrition
During the active growth period, Desert CHOICE® Aloes, Haworthias & Co. is recommended, with high content in potassium and bioavailable calcium. It is applied with watering, reducing or suspending fertilization during summer dormancy.
