Haworthia herbacea var. flaccida | Rooiberg Emerald Haworthia
€15,90
🌱 Morphology
A small, delicate, slow-growing succulent with a compact habit that forms very dense clumps through the proliferation of stemless rosettes. Its leaves are smaller and a brighter green than those of the typical variety of Haworthia herbacea. They are fleshy, narrow, erect, and curved towards the center, with a rough surface, a reticulated pattern of translucent areas, and small firm teeth on the margins and keel. Its delicate appearance contrasts with the tight arrangement of the rosettes, which can be partially buried among the stones.
🌍 Origin, habitat and family
It is a variety with an extremely localized distribution in Rooiberg, in the Worcester district, Western Cape, South Africa. It was described from specimens collected on this mountain. It grows in small colonies on steep north-facing rock walls, where it receives considerable sun exposure, although the crevices offer protection and allow for good drainage. It shares this habitat with Haworthia maraisii and Haworthia reticulata. Its known presence is very limited, and only a few cultivated clones have been reported.
Family Asphodelaceae · Tribe Alooideae · Genus Haworthia.
❄️ Temperature — USDA 10a
Tolerates minimum temperatures close to -1 °C for short periods and with dry substrate. It is advisable to protect it from prolonged frosts and damp cold.
☀️ Lighting
Needs abundant light, but in partial shade with good ventilation and protection from the scorching summer sun during the middle of the day. A PAR DLI of around 8–15 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹ promotes compact growth and preserves the green color of the leaves.
💧 Growth cycle and watering
Summer dormancy. Its growth takes place mainly during the cooler months. In autumn, winter, and spring, it is recommended to water thoroughly and let the substrate dry before watering again. During the summer, considerably reduce watering, especially at high temperatures, avoiding persistent moisture around the roots.
🌸 Flowering
Produces a simple, elongated inflorescence with flowers that are relatively large for the size of the plant, beige in color, and with pink tips. Flowering is related to that of other nearby species in its environment and usually occurs towards the end of the southern winter and the beginning of spring.
🌿 Nutrition
During the active growth period, Desert CHOICE® Aloes, Haworthias & Co. is recommended, with a high content of potassium and bioavailable calcium. Apply with watering, reducing or suspending fertilization during summer dormancy.
Gourmet black pot, 7x7 cm
This is an inimitable xerophyte grown in Madrid in a technological square pot with substrate activated with mycorrhizal fungi and biofungicides.
