🌱 Morphology
An old Haworthia hybrid characterized by its long, narrow, and upright leaves, reaching up to 7 cm in length, 1 cm in width, and about 3 mm in thickness. The deep green leaves have a well-defined lower keel and are covered in small white dots distributed across both sides, which are especially visible on the upper area. The margins feature white teeth, and each leaf ends in a small apical bristle. The combination of elongated leaves, a prominent keel, and light spotting gives it an appearance reminiscent of a miniature aloe. It produces offsets easily, and a single rosette can develop a colony of over 30 heads over time.
🌍 Origin, habitat, and family
It is a horticultural hybrid described by H. C. K. Mak in 2002, originating from the cross Haworthia blackburniae × Haworthia emelyae var. major. It does not have a wild locality of its own. Its parents originate from the Western Cape, South Africa, where they grow in rocky terrain and plant communities adapted to seasonal drought. The species H. blackburniae is found in the foothills of the Swartberg and the Little Karoo mountains, while H. emelyae var. major is associated with the southern Little Karoo. The combination of both parents explains part of the contrast between the elongated leaves, the keel, and the surface ornamentation of the hybrid.
Family Asphodelaceae · Tribe Alooideae · Genus Haworthia.
❄️ Temperature — USDA 10a
It should be kept above -1 °C and protected from frost, especially when the substrate is damp.
☀️ Lighting
Abundant filtered light or bright partial shade. Proper lighting keeps the leaves compact and allows the white spots to be appreciated. Sudden intense sun should be avoided, as it can cause burns and dehydration. Indicative PAR DLI: 8–15 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹.
💧 Growth cycle and watering
Summer dormancy. Its growth is favored during cool and temperate seasons. In autumn, winter, and spring, it is recommended to water thoroughly and let the substrate dry before the next watering. During heatwaves, reduce water intake and maintain good ventilation, avoiding persistent moisture around the roots.
🌸 Flowering
It produces a thin, elongated inflorescence with small whitish tubular flowers, streaked with greenish or brownish lines. The flowering is discreet and takes a back seat to the upright leaves, the marked keel, and the white spotting.
🌿 Nutrition
During the active growth period, Desert CHOICE® Aloes, Haworthias & Co. is recommended, with a high content of potassium and bioavailable calcium. It is applied with watering, reducing or suspending fertilization during summer dormancy.
8x8 cm gourmet black pot
