€31,80
🌱 Morphology
Japanese collector's cultivar belonging to the Haworthia retusa hybrid group. It forms large fleshy rosettes with a very dark greenish-black epidermis. Its leaves feature translucent leaf windows with intense black patterns, whose contrast with the surrounding tissue gives the plant a somber and dramatic appearance. The combination of the dark epidermis and the window patterns constitutes its main ornamental appeal. It is a large-sized select Haworthia.
🌍 Origin, habitat and family
The original breeder and its exact genealogy have not been confirmed. The H. retusa group originates from the province of Western Cape, South Africa, where the plants grow in stony ground and sheltered spots among rocks. 'Daimajin' does not have its own wild locality.
Family Asphodelaceae · Tribe Alooideae · Genus Haworthia.
❄️ Temperature — USDA 10a
It is advisable to keep it above -1 °C and protect it from frost, especially when the substrate is wet. It tolerates heat if it has ventilation, protection from intense sun, and watering adapted to the temperature.
☀️ Lighting
Abundant filtered light or bright partial shade. Gradual exposure can favor the dark coloration of the epidermis, but sudden intense sun can cause burns. Indicative PAR DLI: 8–15 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹.
💧 Growth cycle and watering
Summer dormancy. During the cool seasons, water thoroughly and let the substrate dry before watering again. In summer, reduce watering during periods of extreme heat and maintain good ventilation. Avoid waterlogging and prolonged moisture around the roots.
🌸 Flowering
It produces a fine and elongated inflorescence with small whitish tubular flowers, characteristic of the genus. It flowers between April and June. Its main ornamental appeal lies in the very dark epidermis and the leaf windows with black patterns.
🌿 Nutrition
During the active growth period, Desert CHOICE® Aloes, Haworthias & Co. is recommended, with an NPK 3-2-8 formulation and calcium and magnesium. Apply with watering following the product instructions and reduce or suspend fertilization during summer dormancy.
