Echeveria purpusorum f. white | Porcelain Echeveria
€7,95
🌱 Morphology
It looks like a small, hand-painted porcelain piece. It forms a compact, solitary rosette with slow growth and thick, rigid, pointed leaves. In this horticultural form, the usual green of Echeveria purpusorum transforms into a white or whitish-gray hue, highlighted by reddish or purplish patterns on the margins, keels, and leaf spots. The intensity of the white can vary depending on growing conditions, especially light and nutrition levels.
🌍 Distribution, habitat, and family
A horticultural form of Echeveria purpusorum (Crassulaceae), a species native to Mexico, between Puebla and Oaxaca. In the wild, it grows in dry environments on shallow soils and basalt rock outcrops, often protected by other plants, rocks, or shrubs. The 'White Form' does not have its own natural distribution.
❄️ Temperature — USDA Zone 9b–11b
It tolerates minimum temperatures down to −3.9 ºC (approx. 25 °F), provided the specimen is dry, acclimatized, and the cold exposure is brief. The 'White Form' is marketed as being particularly delicate, so it is advisable to avoid prolonged frosts and, above all, the combination of cold and moisture in the substrate.
☀️ Lighting
It requires very intense lighting to maintain its compact habit and encourage the expression of its white and reddish tones. A bright exposure is recommended, with direct sun that has been progressively introduced, and a target of approximately 18–25 mol/m²/day of DLI PAR during growth periods. Insufficient lighting can lead to more open rosettes and a loss of color intensity.
💧 Growth cycle and watering
Opportunistic. It shows higher activity during periods of moderate temperatures, especially in spring and autumn, and can slow down during both intense summer heat and winter cold. During active growth, abundant watering is recommended, allowing the substrate to dry out completely before watering again. In summer, if temperatures are very high, watering should be spaced out; in winter, it should be reduced considerably, always adapting to the plant's actual activity level.
🌸 Flowering
The species blooms mainly during the cooler months and can produce floral stalks with several tubular flowers. The flowers feature a very characteristic combination of pink at the base, orange toward the apex, and yellow on the inside. In Madrid, flowering can be expected mainly between winter and spring, although the exact timing will depend on growing conditions.
🌿 Nutrition
During the active growth period, a fertilizer specific for succulents with a high content of assimilable calcium, such as Desert CHOICE® Suculentas, is recommended, applied once a month when watering.
This is an inimitable xerophyte grown in Madrid in a professional-grade square pot, with a substrate activated with mycorrhizal fungi and biofungicides.
7x7 cm and 9x9 cm gourmet black pot
