€10,60
🌱 Morphology
Spontaneous selection (sport) of Echeveria pulvinata ‘Red Velvet’, obtained by Bay City Flower Company and marketed as ‘BCEC-12.001’. It forms a compact, highly branched plant, with short stems ending in dense rosettes. Its fleshy, pointed leaves, completely covered in fine hairs, have a characteristic velvety texture. The foliage is green, but the tips and margins gradually take on intense burgundy red tones, especially in bright light and cool nights.
🌍 Distribution, habitat, and family
Crassulaceae family · Echeveria series.
‘Devotion’ is a horticultural cultivar, so it has no natural distribution of its own. It originates from Echeveria pulvinata, a Mexican species native to Puebla and Oaxaca, where it grows as a small succulent subshrub in dry environments. The species belongs to the Echeveria series, characterized by species that are often shrubby, with pubescent or hirsute leaves and spike- or raceme-shaped inflorescences.
❄️ Temperature
USDA 9a. It tolerates minimum temperatures as low as −6 ºC in dry conditions and for short periods. Although the plant can withstand low temperatures when grown under cover, combining severe cold with wet soil is not recommended.
☀️ Lighting
Full sun, with an approximate PAR DLI of 20–30 mol/m²/day. High light levels not only maintain its compact growth habit: they are essential for developing the characteristic burgundy coloring of ‘Devotion’, which intensifies with bright light and cool nights.
💧 Growth cycle and watering
Winter dormancy. During the active growing period, water thoroughly and allow the soil to dry out completely before watering again. Water much less frequently in winter. The fine leaf hairs can retain moisture, so avoid repeatedly wetting the foliage and ensure excellent ventilation.
🌸 Flowering
‘Devotion’ was selected specifically for its compact, branched growth habit and is marketed as a cultivar not intended to flower.
🌿 Nutrition
During the active growing period, we recommend Desert CHOICE® Succulents, applied after watering.
