🌱 Morphology
Horticultural cultivar of undocumented origin and genealogy, forming a compact, geometric, and highly ordered rosette.
The leaves are fleshy, thick, and obovate to slightly triangular in outline, with smooth surfaces and defined apices. Their coloration can range from grayish-green and bluish-green to cream, yellow, and pink tones, especially when exposed to intense light and when there is a temperature contrast between day and night.
The arrangement of the tightly imbricated leaves creates the appearance of a carved gem, with different planes of color that change depending on the angle of the light. It is precisely this combination of geometry and coloration that has given rise to the trade name ‘Magic Diamond’.
🌍 Distribution, habitat, and family
Family Crassulaceae. Horticultural cultivar of Echeveria, with no known natural distribution. No original description of the cultivar has been located that would allow its breeder, date of creation, or genealogy to be established with certainty. Therefore, no infrageneric series is assigned.
❄️ Temperature
USDA Zone 9b. Tolerates minimum temperatures of up to −4 ºC on occasion when completely dry. In cultivation, it should be protected from prolonged frosts and, especially, from the combination of cold and moisture.
☀️ Lighting
Bright partial shade. Indicative PAR DLI: 15–25 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹. It needs plenty of light to maintain a compact rosette and develop its warm tones. It can receive gentle direct sunlight, but in Madrid, protection from the most intense midday sun during the summer is recommended, especially during heatwaves.
Progressive and abundant lighting also promotes the appearance of pink, golden, and amber tones.
💧 Growth cycle and watering
Opportunistic.nAs there is no specific phenological information for this cultivar, it is recommended to treat it as an Echeveria that grows actively during the mild seasons, with growth possibly slowing down during both extreme heat and winter.
During the active growth period, water abundantly and allow the substrate to dry out completely before watering again. During periods of extreme heat, watering will be spaced out. In winter, watering will be considerably reduced, and the substrate will be kept practically dry at low temperatures.
🌸 Flowering
It may develop tall, branched flower stalks with bell-shaped flowers, but no sufficiently reliable information has been found regarding the specific flowering period of ‘Magic Diamond’, its age at first flowering, or its self-pollination capacity.
🌿 Nutrition
During the active growth period, Desert CHOICE® Succulents is recommended, applied after watering. Before flowering, it can be supplemented with Desert CHOICE® Flowering. Fertilizing is not recommended during dormancy.
This is an inimitable xerophyte grown in Madrid in a high-tech square pot with a substrate activated with mycorrhizal fungi and biofungicides.
