        🌱 Morphology
Compact hybrid cultivar attributed to breeder Dick Wright O’Connell, derived from the cross Echeveria derenbergii × Echeveria runyonii ‘Topsy Turvy’. It develops a rosette of fleshy leaves, with relatively rapid growth for the genus, which can reach approximately 15–20 cm in diameter and about 15 cm in height. It produces offsets easily and, over time, can form clusters of several rosettes.

The leaves are very fleshy and feature a characteristic tubular, recurved, and slightly upturned shape, inherited from ‘Topsy Turvy’. They narrow towards the apex and may acquire a slight outward curvature, giving the rosette an irregular yet very recognizable architecture.

The usual coloration is mint green, ice green, or a very pale bluish-green, often covered by a fine layer of pruina that provides a powdery, matte appearance. Under certain lighting and temperature conditions, mauve, pink, or burgundy hues may appear on the margins and tips of the leaves.

The combination of the fresh coloration of E. derenbergii and the peculiar leaf morphology of ‘Topsy Turvy’ makes it easily recognizable even among numerous Echeveria cultivars.

        🌍 Distribution, habitat, and family
Family Crassulaceae. As it is a horticultural hybrid, it does not have its own natural distribution, nor is it appropriate to assign it an infrageneric section or series within Echeveria.

It is the result of crossing Echeveria derenbergii, a Mexican species, with Echeveria runyonii ‘Topsy Turvy’, a horticultural selection of E. runyonii. The cultivar is maintained through vegetative propagation to preserve its characteristics.

        ❄️ Temperature
USDA Zone 9b. It tolerates minimum temperatures of down to −4 ºC occasionally when it is completely dry and protected from humidity.

It is not advisable to keep it exposed for prolonged periods to temperatures near 0 ºC, especially with damp substrate. Cold accompanied by humidity increases the risk of damage to roots and the crown.

During winter, a protected, bright, and well-ventilated location is recommended, keeping the substrate practically dry.

        ☀️ Lighting
Full sun. Indicative DLI PAR: 20–30 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹. It requires high lighting to maintain a compact rosette and promote its characteristic ice-green coloration. It tolerates direct sun after progressive acclimation. Cultivation sources recommend anything from direct sun to very bright exposure, although it can be grown under lower light intensity while maintaining a good shape if excessive shading is avoided.

In Madrid, during summer heatwaves, slight protection during the central hours may be advisable while maintaining a high DLI. A lack of light causes the leaves to separate, lose their characteristic curvature, and the rosette to become more open.

        💧 Growth cycle and watering
Winter dormancy. In cultivation in Spain, it concentrates its activity during the temperate seasons and growth notably slows during winter, coinciding with the shorter photoperiod and lower temperatures.

During the active growth period, it is recommended to water abundantly and let the substrate dry out completely before watering again. Water should be applied directly to the substrate, avoiding it becoming trapped in the center of the rosette.

During episodes of extreme heat, if a slowing of activity is observed, watering should be spaced out. In autumn, they should be progressively reduced, and during winter dormancy, the substrate should be kept practically dry.

        🌸 Flowering
It produces tall floral stems that clearly protrude above the rosette. The flowers appear grouped in inflorescences and present orange to yellow-orange shades, with the flower buds initially being more pinkish or reddish.

Flowering occurs mainly during the temperate seasons and can vary depending on the photoperiod, temperature, and cultivation conditions.

The cultivar flowers when it reaches sufficient maturity, but no sufficiently documented age of first flowering has been found to establish a reliable figure.

        🌿 Nutrition
During the active growth period, Desert CHOICE® Succulents is recommended, applied after watering. Before flowering, it can be supplemented with Desert CHOICE® Flowering. Fertilizing is not recommended during winter dormancy.

This is an inimitable xerophyte grown in Madrid in a high-tech square pot with substrate activated with mycorrhizal fungi and biofungicides.
