🌱 Morphology
An intergeneric hybrid between Sedum and Echeveria that is compact in its early stages, forming rosettes approximately 5–8 cm in diameter on short stems that lengthen and branch with age. Over time, the stems may become partially bare at the base and produce new rosettes at their tips, forming dense clumps.
The leaves are fleshy, elongated, and slightly pointed, with a spiral arrangement reminiscent of a small Echeveria. They have an attractive blue-green or mint-green color, covered by a whitish powdery coating that gives them a matte, frosted finish. The tips can take on pink, burgundy, or purple hues, especially in bright light and cool temperatures. During warm periods, growth may be more vigorous and open, while in cool conditions, the rosette usually takes on a more intense color.
This hybrid is attributed to Renee O’Connell of Altman Plants, although its exact parental combination has not been publicly documented. It is also marketed under the name ‘Blue Apple’.
🌍 Distribution, habitat, and family
This is a horticultural hybrid, so it has no natural distribution of its own. Its origin is attributed to the hybridization program at Altman Plants in the United States, but there is no conclusive information about the species used in the cross or the exact year it was obtained.
As its parents are unknown, it is not possible to assign it a specific ancestral habitat. Its growth characteristics—terminal rosettes, branched stems, and fleshy leaves—are consistent with the drought adaptation strategies of the Crassulaceae. When grown in cultivation, it should be provided with plenty of light, ventilation, and fast-draining substrate, avoiding persistent moisture around the roots.

❄️ Temperature
USDA 9b: −3.9 °C, the lower temperature limit for this zone. This does not guarantee resistance to that temperature. For this hybrid, conservative protection is recommended when temperatures approach 0 °C, especially if the substrate is wet or the cold weather persists. Actual resistance may vary depending on acclimatization and growing conditions.
☀️ Lighting
Full sun · DLI PAR 20–30 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹. Intense light promotes compact rosettes and pink or purple hues at the tips. It should be gradually acclimatized to direct sunlight, especially after growing in a greenhouse. During very hot summers, it may benefit from protection during the middle of the day without excessively reducing the available light.
💧 Growth cycle and watering
Opportunistic. It can grow for much of the year if provided with light and moderate temperatures. It is recommended to water thoroughly and allow the substrate to dry out completely before watering again. During intense heat or cold, when activity decreases, watering should be spaced out. Excess moisture can cause root rot and leaf loss, especially when combined with low temperatures.
🌸 Flowering
It produces flowering stems with small yellow flowers that contrast with the blue-green foliage. Flowering may occur during the active growth phase, but there is not enough consistent information to establish a fixed age for first flowering, confirm multiple flowering cycles in a single season, or guarantee self-pollination.
🌿 Nutrition
During the active growth period, Desert CHOICE® Succulents is recommended, applied after watering. Before flowering, it can be supplemented with Desert CHOICE® Flowering. During dormancy, if growth has stopped, fertilization is not recommended.
