🌱 Morphology
Silver or steel? A compact rhizomatous succulent cultivar that forms rosettes of stiff, lanceolate leaves. The leaves are fleshy, narrow, and pointed, ranging in color from silvery gray to grayish green, with fine striations and darker bands. Over time, it can form dense clusters, reaching approximately 30–60 cm in height.

🌍 Distribution, habitat, and family
It belongs to the Asparagaceae family. ‘Silver Steel’ is a horticultural cultivar of Dracaena trifasciata, a species native to tropical West Africa. The cultivar does not have a natural distribution of its own.

❄️ Temperature
USDA Zone 9–11. It tolerates minimum temperatures down to −1 ºC in dry conditions, although it is recommended to protect it from frost and, especially, from the combination of cold and humidity.

☀️ Lighting
It adapts to a wide range of lighting, from partial shade to intense light. To maintain compact growth and good expression of the silvery-gray hue, approximately 12–20 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹ of DLI PAR is recommended.

💧 Growth cycle and irrigation
Winter dormancy. During the warm season, it is recommended to water abundantly and let the substrate dry out completely before the next watering. In winter, water intake is greatly reduced, keeping the substrate practically dry.

🌸 Flowering
Flowering is rare in cultivation. When it occurs, it produces an elevated inflorescence with small, tubular flowers, generally whitish and fragrant.

🌿 Nutrition
During the active growth period, Desert CHOICE® Succulents is recommended, applied after watering. Before flowering, it can be supplemented with Desert CHOICE® Flowering. It is not recommended to fertilize during winter dormancy.
