🌱 Morphology
‘Silver Peak’ Cotyledon. A perennial, branched, and compact shrubby succulent that can reach approximately 30–60 cm in height and form clumps of similar width. The stems are erect and fleshy. The leaves, opposite and very thick, are elongated, obovate, and slightly ascending, ranging from blue-green to silver-gray, covered by an intense whitish pruina. Under high light conditions, the margins can acquire pink, reddish, or purple tones, creating a striking contrast with the silvery surface.
🌍 Distribution, habitat, and family
Family Crassulaceae. ‘Silver Peak’ is a horticultural cultivar of Cotyledon orbiculata. The species is native to southern Africa, from southwestern Angola to the Cape provinces, including Namibia and other regions of South Africa. It grows primarily in arid environments and dry scrublands, frequently on rocky terrain.

It is a succulent adapted to dry environments and significant thermal variations. It can withstand moderate temperature drops when the substrate remains completely dry, but it is recommended to protect it from prolonged frosts and, especially, from the combination of cold and root moisture.
☀️ Lighting
Very high lighting is recommended, with a target of 15–25 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹ of DLI PAR. Good light intensity promotes compact growth, maintains the silvery pruina, and enhances the reddish coloration of the margins. Exposure to direct sun should be carried out gradually to avoid sunburn.
💧 Growth cycle and irrigation
Its growth occurs mainly during periods of moderate temperatures. During the active period, it is recommended to perform abundant watering and let the substrate dry completely before watering again. During the cold period, water intake should be considerably reduced, allowing the substrate to remain dry for prolonged periods. Rapid drainage is essential.
🌸 Flowering
It produces erect floral stems that rise clearly above the foliage and bear pendulous, tubular, and bell-shaped flowers, orange to coral in color, generally with yellowish tones on the inside. In cultivation, it can bloom mainly during summer and late summer, although the timing may vary with temperature and photoperiod.
🌿 Nutrition
During the growth period, Desert CHOICE® Succulents is recommended, avoiding excess nitrogen that could produce overly soft tissues and reduce compactness. Before flowering, it can be supplemented with Desert CHOICE® Flowering.
