🌱 Morphology
Compact hybrid, forming numerous acaulescent rosettes and eventually creating clumps up to 60–90 cm in diameter. Rosettes reach approximately 20–30 cm in height and up to 45 cm in diameter. Leaves are broad, triangular, fleshy, and bluish-green to silvery-gray, often with pink or reddish margins. Unlike Aloe striata, it has small soft teeth along the margins, inherited from the parent A. maculata. It can acquire mauve or purple tones with cold, drought, or high light.
🌍 Distribution, habitat, and family
Asphodelaceae. This is a horticultural hybrid, so it has no natural distribution of its own. Its parents are South African: Aloe striata and Aloe maculata. The hybrid is widely cultivated as an ornamental plant, especially in Mediterranean and warm climate zones.
❄️ Temperature
USDA 9b–11b. For pot cultivation, we recommend keeping it above 5 °C, although established specimens can withstand brief temperature drops if they remain completely dry. Avoid prolonged cold combined with humidity.
☀️ Lighting
Very adaptable: from bright partial shade to full sun after gradual acclimatization. Target during growth: 20–30 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹ DLI PAR. High light intensifies grayish, pink, and purple tones, but in Madrid, it's advisable to monitor extreme summer sun.
💧 Growth cycle
Opportunistic, with greater activity during mild temperatures and a slowdown during heat or cold extremes. Water abundantly and allow the substrate to dry completely before the next watering. During winter, space out waterings according to temperature and light.
🌸 Flowering
It produces numerous branched inflorescences that clearly stand out from the rosettes. Flowers are normally intense orange to coral, very striking against the grayish foliage. Flowering usually occurs from late winter to spring; in Madrid, approximately February-April, although it may vary depending on cultivation.
🌿 Nutrition
During growth, use Desert CHOICE® Aloes, Haworthia & Co., with calcium and potassium supplementation. Reduce or suspend fertilization during periods of slow growth.
