🌱 Morphology
A compact-growing succulent hybrid that develops dense rosettes at the tips of short stems, which may lengthen with age. The leaves are fleshy, obovate to spatulate, with a narrow base and rounded apex. They display a grayish-green or bluish coloration, covered with a fine whitish bloom, and may develop pinkish or reddish hues along the margins in intense light. Its appearance is reminiscent of a small crown of powdery leaves.
🌍 Distribution, habitat, and family
Family Crassulaceae · Notogenus ×Pachyveria. It is a historic horticultural hybrid attributed to Jean-Baptiste A. Deleuil, who included it in his catalog in 1874. The traditional formula is Pachyphytum bracteosum × Echeveria rosea, although this lineage has been questioned by specialists. It has no natural distribution of its own.
❄️ Temperature
USDA Zone 9a. As a cautious cultivation guideline, temperatures below −6.7 ºC should be avoided; this is the theoretical lower limit of the zone and does not guarantee the hybrid's hardiness. Protect it from damp cold and prolonged frost, keeping the substrate dry when temperatures drop.
☀️ Lighting
Full sun. Approximate PAR DLI: 15–25 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹. Abundant light encourages compact growth and pinkish hues in the leaves. In Madrid, it should be gradually acclimated to direct sun and protected from the most intense radiation during heat waves.
💧 Growth cycle and watering
Opportunistic. During active growth, water thoroughly and allow the substrate to dry out completely before watering again. Avoid waterlogging and water collecting between the leaves. In winter, when temperatures are low and growth slows, water much less frequently.
🌸 Flowering
It produces tall inflorescences with small, bell-shaped flowers in reddish or crimson tones. Historical descriptions mention flowers with reddish petals and well-developed sepals. The age at first flowering and the ability to flower several times in a single season are not sufficiently documented.
🌿 Nutrition
During the active growth period, Desert CHOICE® Succulents is recommended, applied after watering. Before flowering, it can be supplemented with Desert CHOICE® Flowering. Fertilizing is not recommended during winter dormancy.
