🔍MORPHOLOGY
An ornamental intergeneric hybrid between Aloe 'Langdon' × Gasteria 'Little Warty', with compact growth and abundant production of offsets. It forms an elevated rosette on a short stem, about 2.5 cm, with fleshy, rigid, and lanceolate leaves, erect and slightly arched. They are dark green, with numerous silver spots and fine and thick vertical silver-green streaks; with age, the upper part may lose some of the variegation and acquire a more silvery tone. Intense sun exposure can cause reddish, brownish, or very dark tones.
🌍 Distribution, habitat, and family: Does not exist in nature: it is a cultivated cultivar. It belongs to the Asphodelaceae family and combines characteristics of the South African genera Aloe and Gasteria. The available information on its parentage is not completely uniform in trade, so the parentage documented by Alsterworthia is considered preferable: Aloe 'Langdon' × Gasteria 'Little Warty'.
❄️ Temperature/USDA zones: It is advisable to protect it from temperatures below 5 °C, especially if the substrate remains moist. As a commercial reference, it is around USDA 9b–11, although since it is a hybrid, there is no specific official USDA zone.
☀️ Lighting: During active growth, high lighting is recommended, approximately 12–18 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹ DLI PAR. It tolerates gentle sun and increases its coloration with greater light intensity, but in summer in Madrid, it is advisable to avoid the most intense sun during central hours if grown in a small pot.
💧 Growth cycle and watering: Growth is mainly opportunistic, conditioned by temperature and water availability. It is recommended to water abundantly and allow the substrate to dry completely before watering again. In winter, with low temperatures and less light, water intake should be significantly reduced. Excess humidity is one of the main risks of rot.
🌸 Flowering: It produces a slender flower stalk with small, tubular, and pendant flowers, usually in red-orange tones, during spring or early summer.
🌿 Nutrition: During the growth period, Desert CHOICE Growth is recommended. In autumn, to prepare for dormancy and progressively reduce growth, it is advisable to switch to Desert CHOICE Rest.
This is an inimitable xerophytic plant grown in Madrid in a square technological pot with the specific Desert SOIL WITH MYCORRHIZAL FUNGUS ACTIVATION substrate.
