        × Gasteraloe ‘Marble Queen’

        🌱 Morphology

A stemless, relatively slow-growing hybrid succulent that develops a compact rosette and can produce basal offsets, eventually forming small clumps.

The leaves are fleshy, elongated, and lanceolate to triangular in shape, with a thick, rough surface. The most distinctive feature is its marbled pattern, formed by different shades of green: dark green, medium green, and lighter areas that blend irregularly over the leaf surface.

The pattern is not a uniform variegation, but rather an irregular mottling and marbling that can resemble a marble surface. The margins can take on reddish, pinkish, or brownish hues when the plant receives intense light. The leaves also have a slightly tuberculate texture, especially noticeable in mature specimens.

        🌍 Distribution, habitat, and family

It is not a wild species, but an intergeneric horticultural hybrid belonging to the family Asphodelaceae.

The name ×Gasteraloe is used for hybrids between Gasteria and Aloe. Insufficiently reliable documentation has been found to determine the specific parental species or cultivars of ‘Marble Queen’, so no hybridization formula is attributed.

        ❄️ Temperature / USDA Zone — USDA 10a–11

As a cultivation reference, it should be considered a plant sensitive to frost. General recommendations for ×Gasteraloe place the safe limit around 0 °C, although the actual resistance depends on the duration of the cold, the hydration status, and, above all, the humidity of the substrate.

In Madrid, it is advisable to protect it from frost and keep it completely dry during episodes of intense cold.

        ☀️ Lighting — DLI PAR guidance: 10–16 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹

It needs plenty of light, but it is preferable to avoid intense direct sun during the central hours of summer. It is actually a semi-shade plant.

A guiding target during growth is 10–16 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹ of DLI PAR.
