Weingartia rauschii 'Green Apple'
€15,90
🌱 Morphology
A botanical cultivar of Weingartia rauschii distinguished by consistently maintaining a bright, uniform, apple-green epidermis without developing the purplish hues characteristic of other forms of the species. The body is small, globose, and slightly depressed, with ribs fragmented into small tubercles arranged in a spiral. The areoles are narrow and close together, producing numerous fine, short, appressed spines. With age, it may form small, compact clusters. The intensity of the green is maintained particularly well with high light levels and balanced cultivation.
🌍 Distribution, habitat, and family
Weingartia rauschii originates from the mountainous regions of Bolivia and belongs to the Cactaceae family, subfamily Cactoideae. ‘Green Apple’ is a cultivar designation used to identify this light-green-epidermis phenotype within the species' collection material.
❄️ Temperature · USDA Zone 9a
Tolerates minimum temperatures down to −6 ºC when kept dry and with well-acclimated specimens. It must remain completely dry during winter.
☀️ Lighting
It requires plenty of light to maintain its characteristic apple-green color, although it is recommended to avoid sudden changes from protected conditions to intense sun. During active growth, a DLI PAR of 20–30 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹ is recommended.
💧 Growth cycle and irrigation
Winter dormancy. Keep dry during the cold period. In spring, as growth resumes, abundant but spaced irrigation should be resumed, allowing the substrate to dry out completely between waterings. Rapid drainage and root aeration are essential.
🌸 Flowering
Produces lateral flowers during spring, relatively large in proportion to its small body, in shades that can range from yellow to reddish or magenta, depending on the source material.
🌿 Nutrition
During the active growth period, a fertilizer with a high content of assimilable calcium and low nitrogen levels, such as Desert CHOICE® Cactáceas, is recommended, applied once a month when watering. Before flowering, it can be supplemented with Desert CHOICE® Floración.
