×Pachyveria (Pachyphytum compactum × Echeveria colorata) | Faceted jewel in silver and coral
€10,60
🌱 Morphology
An intergeneric hybrid that combines the sculptural character of Pachyphytum compactum with the elegance and silvery tones of Echeveria colorata. One expects a succulent with a compact rosette, with fleshy, thick leaves, obovate to lanceolate in contour and with acute apices. The influence of P. compactum may manifest in angular or slightly faceted leaves, while E. colorata may contribute a more open silhouette, elongated leaves, and an intense whitish pruina.
The coloration can combine glaucous green, silvery blue, and waxy white tones, with pinkish, coral, or reddish nuances on the margins and tips when it receives abundant light and experiences cool nights. The final form, rosette size, and intensity of the pruina should be described based on the cultivated clone, as no published morphological description of this exact cross has been located.
🌍 Distribution, habitat, and family
It is a horticultural hybrid of undocumented origin, so it does not have its own natural distribution. The Pachyphytum compactum × Echeveria colorata cross appears in specialized catalogs, but it has not been possible to confirm who originally obtained this specimen or whether the Desert CITY clone corresponds to the same plant material.
Its parents originate from Mexico. Pachyphytum compactum is associated with the state of Hidalgo, especially rocky environments in the Ixmiquilpan region. Echeveria colorata is native to Jalisco, in western Mexico, with populations linked to mountainous and volcanic areas, including the surroundings of Tapalpa. Both species show adaptations to rocky sites, with little available soil and rapid drainage.
The combination of these parents makes it reasonable to expect a plant adapted to storing water in fleshy leaves and to periods of dryness between waterings. For cultivation, it is advisable to provide abundant light, good root aeration, and a substrate that does not retain moisture for too long.
Family Crassulaceae · Intergeneric hybrid ×Pachyveria.
❄️ Temperature
USDA 9b: −3.9 °C, the lower climatic limit of this zone. This does not constitute a guaranteed minimum temperature for this hybrid, whose specific cold resistance is not documented. It is recommended to protect it from frost and keep the substrate dry during cold episodes. The combination of low temperatures and persistent humidity can cause root damage and leaf loss.
☀️ Lighting
Full sun · DLI PAR 20–30 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹. Abundant lighting favors compact growth and can intensify the pinkish or coral nuances of the margins. Adaptation to direct sun should be gradual to avoid sunburn. In summer, if temperatures are very high, it may benefit from protection against the most intense sun during central hours, without depriving it of sufficient light.
💧 Growth cycle and watering
Opportunistic. Since the seasonal behavior of this clone is not precisely known, it is advisable to adjust watering to its actual activity and environmental conditions. During active growth, it is recommended to water deeply and allow the substrate to dry completely before watering again. When cold or intense heat slows down growth, waterings should be spaced out. It is especially important to avoid waterlogging and persistent humidity at the neck of the rosette.
🌸 Flowering
Flowering could present intermediate characteristics between both parents. Pachyphytum compactum produces hanging flowers in reddish tones, while Echeveria colorata features pink or coral flowers with orange nuances. However, no specific information has been located that would allow for attributing a color, flowering season, or specific floral morphology to this hybrid with certainty.
🌿 Nutrition
During the active growth period, Desert CHOICE® Succulents is recommended, applied after watering. Before flowering, it can be supplemented with Desert CHOICE® Flowering. During dormancy, if growth has stopped, fertilizing is not recommended.
