🔍 Known as Living Stones. Succulent with two lobes that are fleshy, stone-like leaves. Lithops otzeniana is a medium-sized species within the genus. It has a truncate heart-shaped profile and, from a zenithal view, it has a symmetrical elliptical shape. The lobes are like two rather divergent half-moons. Smooth to the touch with a very deep central fissure. Large, open, translucent olive-green windows. Colors vary from light gray, cream, green, or bluish.
📍 Distributed in a very small area in the Northern Cape province in South Africa. Its reference locality is the farm of Blackfontein. It lives at altitudes of 1,000 to 1,350 meters. It is a region with regular rainfall between the autumn and winter months. It belongs to the family Aizoaceae.
🌡️USDA ZONE 8a - 10a. Can tolerate frost. The minimum recommended temperature is -7ºC. In winter, when cultivated in pots, the substrate should remain dry.
☀️For healthy, stress-free growth, it needs partial shade or a PAR radiation intensity of 20 to 22 moles of photons daily.
🌸 Large central flowers, yellow with a white throat. Blooms in late September.
💧Watering begins in spring as soon as the plant undergoes its annual molt and the old leaves are reabsorbed. When high summer temperatures arrive between July and August, they enter estivation and watering should be stopped. Watering restarts in September and continues until the end of the flowering period. In November, watering is completely stopped to facilitate winter dormancy. Always allow the substrate to dry between waterings.
