€26,50
🔍 Known as Living Stones. A succulent formed by two fused fleshy leaves that resemble a small stone. Lithops julii has a truncated, flat, or slightly convex profile, and when viewed from above, it has an elliptical, usually somewhat kidney-shaped form. The surface is highly variable: it can be whitish-gray, bluish, pinkish, beige, or brown, with windows and reticulated patterns of varying intensity. A frequent characteristic is the “lip-smear,” a darker area along the edges of the central fissure.
📍 Native to southern Namibia and the northern tip of South Africa, in areas near the Orange River and the region between Warmbad and Karasburg. A notable reference locality is the Warmbad, Namibia area. It grows in stony and very mineral soils, where its cryptic appearance allows it to blend in with the surrounding stones. It belongs to the family Aizoaceae.
🌡️ USDA ZONE 8b–10a. It can tolerate light frosts when completely dry. As a cautious cultivation criterion, the recommended minimum temperature is approximately -2 ºC, avoiding prolonged low temperatures. During winter, the substrate should remain dry.
☀️ For healthy growth, it needs plenty of light and direct sun, avoiding excessively abrupt exposure when the plant is not acclimated. As a practical reference, a DLI of 20–25 mol photons m⁻² day⁻¹ promotes compact growth and good expression of its patterns. This range is a horticultural target, not a specific published physiological minimum for the species.
🌸 Central white flowers, relatively large for the plant's size, typically around 25–35 mm. In its habitat, it flowers during the austral autumn, approximately between March and May. In Madrid, flowering shifts to approximately September-November, peaking in October.
💧 Watering begins in spring, once the annual molt is complete and the old leaves have been fully reabsorbed. During May and June, it can be kept in active growth. With very high temperatures in July and August, it may enter ecodormancy, so watering should be reduced or suspended. It is gradually resumed in late summer and throughout September, coinciding with reactivation and preparation for flowering. After flowering, watering is reduced again until suspended during the leaf renewal period. Always allow the substrate to dry completely between waterings.
🚀 Nutrition: Its development improves with fertilizer high in assimilable Calcium and Potassium, such as Desert CHOICE® Aizoaceae (NPK (Ca-Mg) 6–5–15 (3–3)). Always use very moderately and only during the active growth period.
📏 This is an inimitable Xerophytic cultivated in Madrid in a technological square pot with substrate activated with mycorrhizal fungi.
