Lithops halli var. halli C050
โฌ10,60
๐ Known as Living Stones. A succulent formed by two fleshy leaves that have evolved to resemble a stone. Lithops hallii is a medium-sized species, generally with bodies of about 2โ3 cm in diameter. It has a truncated profile, with a flat or slightly convex upper surface, and an narrowly elliptical face when viewed from above. The surface is slightly rough and the central fissure relatively pronounced. Its windows and channels form a characteristic fine network, with numerous small islands. The colors are highly variable: gray, beige, pink, cream, orange or brown, depending on the population.
๐ Native to South Africa, mainly the Northern Cape province, in the region approximately between Prieska, Hopetown, and Britstown. A particularly interesting reference locality is the Prieska area, represented by Cole number C111 for the ochracea form. It belongs to the family Aizoaceae.
๐ก๏ธ USDA ZONE 8bโ10a. It is a species adapted to relatively cold winters and can withstand light frosts when completely dry, although in cultivation it is much safer to protect it from prolonged frosts. As a prudent reference, temperatures around -2 ยบC can be tolerated temporarily by dry, protected specimens, but we do not recommend keeping it continuously subjected to sub-zero temperatures.
โ๏ธ For healthy, compact growth and good coloration, it needs plenty of light and several hours of direct sun. For intensive cultivation, we can aim for an integrated light intensity of approximately 20โ25 moles of photons daily (DLI). This value is a horticultural reference, not a physiological threshold published specifically for L. hallii. Exposure should be increased gradually to avoid sunburn.
๐ธ Produces central white flowers, relatively large for the size of the plant, typically 25โ35 mm, and can reach about 47 mm in diameter. In Madrid, we expect flowering mainly between October and November.
๐ง Watering begins in spring, when the plant has completed its annual shed and the old leaves have been almost completely reabsorbed. During spring and early summer, it can remain active, always allowing the substrate to dry completely between waterings. When temperatures reach their summer maximums, especially during July and August, we should reduce or suspend watering if the plant enters dormancy due to heat. Watering is restarted in late summer or early autumn, coinciding with the recovery of activity and preparation for flowering. After flowering, watering is progressively reduced until it is kept dry again during winter renewal.
The golden rule with Lithops hallii is: it is much safer to underwater than to overwater. We should never keep the substrate moist for prolonged periods.
๐ Nutrition: Its growth can be encouraged with very moderate, low-nitrogen fertilization, providing especially potassium and assimilable calcium, such as our Desert CHOICEยฎ Aizoaceae (NPK (Ca-Mg) 6โ5โ15 (3โ3)).
๐ This is an inimitable Xerophytic cultivated in Madrid in a technological square pot and with a substrate activated with mycorrhizal fungi.
