Haworthia 'Wolf Ball' | The white-windowed ball
€31,80
🌱 Morphology
Japanese collector's hybrid belonging to the group of haworthias with trimmed leaves and leaf windows. Cactus Nishi documents several 'Wolf Ball' selections obtained from the cross 'Silver Mutica' × 'White Wolf'. They are characterized by their very thick, short, and rounded leaves, with truncated apices that form large translucent windows. On these appear whitish drawings and green or dark streaks that contrast with the leaf background. The KN1 selection presents a dark epidermis and highly ornate white windows; other selections of the group show green or purplish-black tones.
🌍 Origin, habitat and family
Horticultural hybrid of Japanese origin, coming from lines selected for the globular shape of the leaves and the ornamentation of their windows. Its parents are horticultural selections of haworthias, not precisely identified wild populations. The haworthias of this group come from South African lineages.
Family Asphodelaceae · Tribe Alooideae · Genus Haworthia.
❄️ Temperature — USDA 10a
It is advisable to keep it above 0 °C and protect it from frost, especially when the substrate is moist. Good ventilation helps prevent problems during cold periods.
☀️ Lighting
It prefers abundant indirect light or bright partial shade. Proper lighting favors the compactness of the rosette and the contrast of the windows, but intense sun can cause burns and excessively dark coloration. As an initial guideline, a PAR DLI of 8–15 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹ is recommended, adjusting it to the plant's acclimatization and response.
💧 Growth cycle and watering
Summer dormancy. During the cool seasons, it is recommended to water thoroughly and let the substrate dry before the next watering. In summer, with high temperatures, it is advisable to reduce the frequency and maintain excellent ventilation. In many haworthias, the old roots can deteriorate during summer dormancy and renew when growth resumes in autumn. Gradually resume watering as the heat moderates and avoid waterlogging throughout the year.
🌸 Flowering
It produces an elongated inflorescence with small whitish tubular flowers, characteristic of the genus.
🌿 Nutrition
During active growth, Desert CHOICE® Aloes, Haworthias & Co. is recommended, with NPK 3-2-8 and calcium and magnesium. Reduce or suspend fertilization during summer dormancy.
Gourmet black pot of 10x10 cm
This is an inimitable xerophyte grown in Madrid in a technological square pot and with the substrate activated with mycorrhizal fungi and biofungicides.
