Haworthia ‘White Lion’ — The White Lion
🌱 Morphology
A horticultural selection marketed under the name Haworthia ‘White Lion’. Possibly derived from Haworthia turgida and Haworthia retusa parents. It features a compact olive-green rosette with smooth, slightly concave oblong-acute leaves. White lines appear on the translucent windows along the leaf edges.
🌍 Origin, habitat, and family
It is marketed as native to South Africa. It belongs to the Asphodelaceae family, Alooideae tribe.
❄️ Temperature — USDA 10a
It is recommended to grow it protected from frost and the combination of low temperatures and persistent moisture. Preferably keep it above 5°C, with good ventilation and fast-draining substrate.
☀️ Lighting
Bright, filtered light, with partial shade during the hours of peak sunlight. An initial DLI PAR reference of 8–15 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹ can help maintain compact growth without exposing the leaves to excessive radiation. It is advisable to adapt the exposure gradually.
💧 Growth cycle and watering
Summer dormancy. As a general guideline for Haworthia, it is recommended to reduce watering during periods of intense heat and resume it when temperatures are milder. During growth, water thoroughly and allow the substrate to lose most of its moisture before the next watering. Avoid waterlogging and water accumulation in the center of the rosette.

Flowering occurs between April and June.
