Haworthia 'West Wind' | The West Wind Rosette
€26,50
🌱 Morphology
Compact ornamental cultivar that develops relatively large rosettes with narrow, elongated, flat leaves. The leaf surface is smooth and green, with translucent windows that allow light to pass through to the inner tissues. Its vertical, slender silhouette contrasts with broad-leaved, rounded Haworthias and gives it an understated elegance. I have not found reliable documentation confirming its parentage, the breeder, or the exact country of origin, so it is not attributed to a specific hybrid line.
🌍 Origin, habitat and family
Collector’s cultivar marketed as Haworthia ‘West Wind’. It has not been possible to verify whether it is a selection of a particular species or a hybrid. Haworthias are native to southern Africa, where many species grow in rocky environments protected from intense sunlight.
Family Asphodelaceae · Tribe Alooideae · Genus Haworthia.
❄️ Temperature — USDA 9a
Minimum temperature of −4 °C. As a precaution for container-grown plants, protect it from prolonged frosts and cold, damp conditions, especially if the growing medium is not completely dry.
☀️ Lighting
Bright light, with gentle morning sun or bright partial shade. As an initial guideline, a PAR DLI of 8–15 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹ is recommended, adjusted to the plant’s response. Exposure should be increased gradually to prevent leaf scorch.
💧 Growth cycle and watering
Summer dormancy. Water thoroughly during active growth and allow the growing medium to dry out before watering again. During periods of intense heat, reduce watering and improve ventilation. Watering should be adjusted to the temperature and the actual dryness of the growing medium, avoiding waterlogging.
🌸 Flowering
It flowers between April and June, producing an elongated inflorescence with small whitish and greenish flowers typical of the Haworthia genus.
🌿 Nutrition
Use Desert CHOICE® Aloes, Haworthias & Co., NPK 3-2-8 with calcium and magnesium during active growth. Reduce or stop fertilising during summer dormancy and avoid salt build-up in the growing medium.
