Haworthia 'Taka No Tsune' | The Hawk's Claw
€53,00
🌱 Morphology
Japanese hybrid from the retusa group, cataloged by Cactus Nishi with the code HRX-32. Its most striking feature is its black-purple epidermis, which gives it a dark and dramatic appearance. Like other Haworthias from the retusa group, it has fleshy leaves arranged in a rosette, with translucent apical surfaces that allow light to pass through to the inner tissues. The intensity of the purple hue can vary depending on lighting, temperature, and physiological state. The exact cross that gave rise to this selection has not been verified. This is a large specimen with a rosette over 10 cm wide.
🌍 Origin, habitat, and family
Japanese horticultural hybrid documented by Cactus Nishi under the code HRX-32. The Japanese name 鷹の爪 (Taka no Tsume) means "hawk's claw" and is also traditionally used for other hard-leaved Haworthias, so it is advisable to retain the HRX-32 code to avoid confusion. The wild parents of the retusa group originate from South Africa.
Family Asphodelaceae · Tribe Alooideae · Genus Haworthia.
❄️ Temperature — USDA 10a
It is recommended to preferably keep it above -1 °C and protect it from frost, especially when the substrate is moist. The combination of cold and persistent moisture can cause root damage.
☀️ Lighting
Abundant indirect light or bright partial shade. As an initial reference, a PAR DLI of 8–15 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹ is recommended, adjusting it to the plant's response. Proper lighting can promote the expression of dark tones, but intense direct sunlight can cause burns. It is recommended to gradually acclimate it to any increase in exposure.
💧 Growth cycle and watering
Summer dormancy. It is recommended to water thoroughly during active growth and let the substrate dry out before watering again. During periods of intense heat, it is advisable to reduce watering and improve ventilation. Both waterlogging and prolonged dehydration should be avoided when the plant resumes growth.
🌸 Flowering
It can produce an elongated inflorescence with small whitish and greenish flowers, characteristic of the Haworthia genus. No specific flowering calendar has been confirmed for HRX-32.
🌿 Nutrition
It is recommended to use Desert CHOICE® Aloes, Haworthias & Co., NPK 3-2-8 with calcium and magnesium, during active growth. It is advisable to reduce or suspend fertilization during summer dormancy and avoid the accumulation of salts in the substrate.
Gourmet black 12x12 cm pot
