Haworthia silviae 'Super Star' | Haworthia Silver Constellation
€31,80
🌱 Morphology
A very slow-growing collector's Haworthia that forms compact rosettes of thick, fleshy, reticulated leaves with flattened or slightly sunken tips. The leaves, dark green, grey-green, or reddish-brown, have surfaces covered with small whitish and silvery flecks, which contrast with the reddish or purple lines that separate them. Their texture can be slightly rough, and their translucent tips form discreet windows. With adequate lighting, it takes on coppery and purple tones, while the light flecks look like a constellation against a dark sky.
🌍 Origin, habitat and family
'Super Star' is a horticultural selection marketed as Haworthia silviae; the breeder and its genealogy have not been confirmed. The related wild taxon comes from the Western Cape, South Africa, between the Gouritz River and Mossel Bay, with known populations in Humor, west of Mossel Bay, and near Cooper Siding. It grows on quartz outcrops in renosterveld communities, where crevices offer good drainage and some protection. The cultivated selection has no natural locality of its own.
Family Asphodelaceae · Tribe Alooideae · Genus Haworthia.
❄️ Temperature — USDA 10a
It is advisable to keep it above 0 °C and protect it from frost, especially when the substrate is wet.
☀️ Lighting
Abundant filtered light or bright partial shade. Gradual lighting can intensify the reddish and purple tones, but sudden strong sunlight should be avoided. Approximate DLI PAR: 8–15 mol·m⁻²·day⁻¹.
💧 Growth cycle and watering
Summer dormancy. It grows preferably during the cooler months. In autumn, winter, and spring, it is recommended to water thoroughly and allow the substrate to dry before the next watering. During intense heat, reduce watering and maintain good ventilation, avoiding persistent moisture around the roots.
🌸 Flowering
It produces a slender, elongated inflorescence with small whitish flowers marked by green or brown lines. Its ornamental value lies mainly in the contrast between the silvery flecks and the dark tones of the leaves.
🌿 Nutrition
During the active growth period, Desert CHOICE® Aloes, Haworthias & Co. is recommended, with a high content of potassium and bioavailable calcium. It is applied with watering, reducing or suspending fertilization during summer dormancy.
